Microsoft let a bunch of idiots run the PR campaign, they shot themselves in the foot, and their fixes thus far have brought them on-par with Sony. Bringing yourself to-par from a negative starting point isn't enough--you have to come out and give a reason for folks to stop choosing Sony.

$100 more expensive for weaker hardware = on par.

Don't both consoles have similar cpu?

the clock speeds are not the same, but sony has never really gone official on those numbers.

Here's what matters. The games are good on the PS4 and XB1, some of them actually great. The graphics are MUCH better than anything you can find on the 360 or PS3, if you say no then you are blind or just a lying troll. PC will forever have better graphics because the hardware is every evolving and getting better. You absolutely cannot blame MS for stagnating PC gaming when they are completely retooling DX12 and offering extreme performance benefits with it. You can't blame Sony either. The blame is on developers. So you either need to make your own game or bother the developers enough so they invest extra time into making games on PC look better. If you do the latter you will get games that are absolutely unplayable because you wanted "OMG Burn My Eyes Out Uber Graphics!" and the gameplay is neglected and the frame rate tanks unless you have SLI 780ti cards.

There are your options...build your own game, bug developers to devote time to PC graphics, or just roll with it because gaming is bigger than ever and the games are better looking than ever (wow what a concept).

The level of stupidity in your comments is unreal. I'm not even addressing you in the future. I was obviously speaking on a software level, because they didn't change the hardware...that's OBVIOUSLY not what I was referring to. Go troll somewhere else, PLEASE.

That it looks phenomenal on your 120" TV is beside the point. Personally I think most games post-2008 have good graphics because I remember playing games like Wolfenstein 3D and Doom.

But if we are going to compare things we need to do so honestly. Xbone games look pretty good... now. How will they compare in 3 or 4 or 5 years time to PC games?

Literally the only way Xbone games will be able to compare with high-end PC games is if they willfully hold back PC games so the console can keep pace.

That is bad for gaming IMO when an underpowered console dictates the state of game development for all other platforms as well.

PS4 is also underpowered. It's only 40-50% more powerful than Xbone and only on the GPU which allows for a bit higher resolution, framerate etc but not a huge difference. IMO it's the low clock speed on the CPU that is the biggest problem. You can easily pare back shadows, lighting, etc.. and still have a "next-gen" game with fully interactive environments etc... but not with these 1.6 ghz cpu's. So the GPU's are left to pick up the slack and that's why games on both consoles are looking sub-par when compared to the bigger leap we had going from Xbox to Xbox 360.

Cool story bro.

We get it. You find the XB1 inferior to the PS4 and of course * < PC gaming. You have made your opinion clear.

The bottom line for most everyone who does play on an XB1 is about the gaming experience. We don't stare at every pixel on screen, we care about an overall good experience.

Yes, the XB1 could be better. Most of us don't care if it's hardware specs are less than that of the PS4. We have fun with it and that's all that matters.

And you can hardly blame Microsoft for micro-transactions. COD Ghosts has micro-transactions out the wazoo and it's on PS4.

P.S. Do you even own an XB1? What about a PS4? It would be really shitty if you were in here airing out your smelly vagina and didn't actually have any first-hand experience.

I'm talking about how underpowered consoles impact gaming for the rest of us. What's the last substantive post you made in this thread? You are the closest thing to a troll I see here. How about debate on the issues and stop resorting to personal attacks?

How is someone who actually owns the console, and actually plays games on the console, more of a troll than someone who openly hates the console and only visits this thread to bash said console???

This thread is about the console. Feel free to start another thread on exactly how this generation of consoles impact gaming for those who don't want a console. Oh right, that wouldn't work, as nobody else gives a sh*t.

And there you go: this thread is about the Xbox One. Not about how underpowered consoles impact gaming for the rest of us. Go start a new thread and camp out under your bridge in there.

Since MS is going bankrupt from awful Xbox One sales and PC gaming is clearly superior, would anyone like to buy my Xbox One? Despite enjoying it massively, I just can't ignore the future. Thanks futurefields for showing me the light!

Hardly. The performance advantage the PS4 has in the GPU department is tiny. The Xbone has a more powerful CPU too but I don't see you mentioning that anywhere.

This is just a case of someone who doesn't have an Xbox One going into a thread about Xbox One and telling all of the Xbox One players how bad Xbox One is. Trolling.

The difference in GPU power is around 50% which isn't tiny. The slight speed difference in CPU speed is tiny and will rarely be taken advantage of.

What is important is that Xbone current has better exclusives, Forza, Dead Rising, Titanfall, those games are what people should care about. I love Dead Rising and Forza, I'm planning on getting an Xbone once my tax return money comes in.

If anyone is curious as to my XBOX One woes, I spoke with Microsoft on Wednesday. They put me through the usual rigamarole that I had already tested, but I'm not surprised since that's standard IT affair. Although, I did get a little annoyed at the guy constantly asking whether I put the HDMI cable in the correct port. :p "So, if you're looking at the front, it's on the right, and from the back, it's on the left?" ...asked that about five times!

I went through their advance replacement setup where they ship you a new console, and you ship the old one back (they pay both ways regardless of which option). Although, there's a $15 service charge for the advance replacement. I got the new console on Friday (helps when it ships from Tennessee!), and it works fine. Although, no free game for me... just a free month of Gold. :p

The tech did tell me something that seemed rather odd. He insisted that the fact that I plugged my X1's power brick through a UPS is what caused it to die. Apparently, since the power adapter has surge protection inside, they want you to plug it into the wall. o_O Microsoft... part of the reason why we use power strips, surge protectors, or UPSs is because we don't have that many wall outlets!

So, I'm wondering... does anyone plug their console directly into the wall?

I do, but that is only because it is awkward to plug it into my surge protector. The tech telling you that likely has little idea of electrical equipment. One of their "points" is probably to help troubleshot faulty power strips, thus suggesting it be plugged directly into the wall.

I don't see any way an UPS or surge protector (unless it was faulty in some way) could ruin your powerbrick. Perhaps, if it didn't stop a surge (I believe they are really only good for a single large surge before they are just power strips) and another happened that popped the brick's protector.

mine is plugged into a power strip.

sounds like he just is giving you a bogus reason to pass the buck so that there is no way it could be ms faulty hardware, it has to be the surge protector!

Oh, no... it actually says on Microsoft's website to plug it directly into the wall. I can't link it at the moment, but there's a note in the "Set up your Xbox One console" guide...

Note We recommend that you plug the power cord directly into an electrical outlet and not a power strip

The guy tried to tell me that plugging the power brick into something else could cause the console to not get enough electricity, and that is likely what ruined my console. I'm not an EE, but I've never heard of too little current/voltage ever ruining a purely electronic device.

I have some super cheap power strips and I have actually tested them with a multimeter and they always output the correct current. I wouldn't trust their surge protection, but they don't give improper voltage.

Just picked up Powerstar Golf on my One (go, Bing Rewards! Free Games!). I'm loving it so far, especially since my hard-headed nature has locked me out of every other sports game on the console (won't buy from EA, and I'm irritated by NBA 2K14's VC crap).

i heard pretty poor things about powerstar golf, but i'd definitely give it a try for free heh.
