Jesus people. You may not like MS's stand on this stuff, and I don't either, but where the fuck do you get off telling someone that they shouldn't buy a console. It's his/her money, not yours, so I think people should back off for a bit.

Let me get this straight. 8 years ago, Sony released the PS3 at 600, and Xbox released at 500(?).

You seriously think they care (no offense) about the consumer who has a $399 high point? 8 years of price inflation, yet we STILL get a $500 dollar price point from Sony. That's lucky for us.

To any person who thinks Sony is releasing at $399, I'm telling you you're wrong, and I'll gloat in 15 minutes when I'm proved right.

The differences between Sony and Xbox will not be that much, I'm guaranteeing it.

And I'll guarantee that 4 months from now, NO ONE will remember any of this, and whatever MS and Sony are saying then will be what you remember. The consumer's memory is as short as a goldfish.

Gloat huh...

Fail at what exactly? The used game market is not the only thing that places downward pressure on video games (new or used), demand from consumers is. At the current $59.99 price point I think pretty hard before I buy and make a decision justified by the number of hours I expect to get out of it to decide if it is worth it. At $69.99 those numbers change and I am less likely to buy a game and I imagine it is the same way for many other people.

My idea of the value of a game is not changed by the used market in the least bit. Publishers will lower prices over time to eek out every single big of profit they can make from a game especially with digital distribution because all of their costs coke from the initial development investment and marketing push. 5 years later if no one buys it for $15, it does not hurt them to sell it for $5.

some more KI stuff...

http://kotaku.com/killer-instinct-on-xbox-one-is-free-for-your-first-cha-512655221

this one quote just makes me facepalm because it makes no sense...

"We wanted to do something disruptive," Microsoft producer Torin Rettig told me as people played the new Killer Instinct near us at a Monday night Xbox One showcase tied to E3. "We wanted to do something that took into consideration how most people play fighting games. Most people who play fighting games aen’t even going to play half the characters. Why not let them play the characters they want?” Each character other than Jago can be purchased individually. Players will be able to buy bunches of characters at a better value.

that is 100% false and completely untrue, and basically tells me that they did NO research on the fighting game community. sure, most people end up maining 1 main character, but the majority of fighter fans don't just PICK THEIR FIRST FIGHTER AND STICK WITH IT! stupid stupid fucking microsoft.

most people mess around with everyone in the cast, then fine who they like to play with, and THEN decide to start narrowing their main down.

god damn i swear they keep talking about how they have been listening to the gamers, but then come out with stupid shit like this.

Also most of the best players probably know most of the characters pretty well and can hold their own with them. That way they have a working knowledge of how each character can be played and how to exploit those moves/combos to their advantage. Then later when they find their main, they know how to counter the other characters.

To be fair, I'd say most people who play fighting games either pick a top tier character or one that looks cool and "sticks with it". But most of the players are awful.

Now, if by doing something disruptive, they meant doing something stupid, they hit the nail on the head.

i disagree 100%.

the casuals don't even know what "top tier" means, and the people who create the tiers do so because they experiment with all characters and matchups.

The casuals pick a character based on how it looks. The pot monsters pick a top tier 90% of the time.

The truly casual players would probably never have purchased KI and will just play the free game and not bother buying any characters.

Here's a pretty good article. I recommend the people foaming at the mouth with hatred towards MS stay away from it though.

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-21539_...t-need-to-be-the-end-of-gaming-as-we-know-it/

stopped reading at this...

Why? Because each time you lend the game out to a friend, it's money lost for the publisher and, more importantly, the developer. And ultimately, that's not good for the industry.

that is simply not true.

how are they going to pick others if they can't see more than jago?

I am sure you can see the other characters, just not play them. They will probably see one they like, pay the $0.99 or whatever garbage MS is charging, and be happy enough with a game that cost $1 and move on after getting blown up online a few times.

I do agree this model is an awful idea and should be killed. I would think if they had listened to any input from the FCG (which I know they didn't ask), they'd have learned this model is stupid.

Me giving a game to my friend so that he doesn't spend $60 doesn't hurt the publishers?

not at all. just because they borrowed it doesn't mean your friend would have paid $60 to buy it brand new. this is the same thing as the RIAA/MPAA saying EVERY SINGLE illegal download is "money lost" to the artist. it's simply not true.

is me using a free rental to play a game at redbox hurting the publishers?

you are insane if you think the characters will be $.99 lol. the dlc characters (on top of the $60 purchase for the full game) on injustice are $5/character. and this is a $60-to-play game.

The real problem is MS and publishers could kill used game sales by just following the model suggested and not blocking used games from being played. If they enabled a system that didn't block them, but still had reasonable sales and kept their prices in line with market values, nobody would bother buying used games anymore anyway. Why would I spend $5 less on a used game when I can get a new one for $30 less in a month? Obviously, the big titles won't drop as fast, CoD sells at $60 most of it's lifecycle because it is CoD. But similar games don't have to.

I was just throwing a number out. I have no idea what they will cost. But I think $5 a character for Injustice is about as consumer rape as you can get.

the full game of injustice was $60 brand new, with 24 characters. that is just over $2/character + all the content. and the game hit $35 like 2 weeks after launch.

then $5 for a DLC character...

but i guess people are paying or else it wouldn't be that much.

No, but a percentage of such friends would have. Even if it's 1 out of every 100 people who are loaned games would have bought them if they were unable to borrow them, it's still a loss for the publishers.
