The PS4 has the same problems you're complaining about. I think in both cases, they simply wanted to make sure the gaming related stuff was finished and patch in the other stuff later. Now, this is horrible practice in the real world, but since you're either getting one to play next gen games or getting a Wii-U, they don't really care about the lost sales from not having it at launch.

In 6 months or so, both platforms should have some of these features Skel, and that would be the best time to buy (if you haven't already bought one).

I understand the frustration though. I have an HTPC with a Blu-Ray drive, so I don't have any of those problems, but I could only imagine having to rely on the console and being frustrated to no end.

Has anyone skyped with it and has a video quality opinion on it?

I wonder if you're watching TV through your X1 and a skype call comes in, it will indicate/overlay the call to be answered?

Thanks!

yeah i'm a bit bummed that neither of them can do 3d bluray out of the gate. i will have to keep my bluray player hooked up until it can do that.

i just find it odd that the ps3 is a more powerful bluray player than the ps4, no matter how you spin it.

1.) My bluray copies won't load into Xbox1. Only pressed BR discs work.
2.) No mp4/avi play ability

Can anyone confirm these? We burn our camcorder movies to BR and it would suck if we couldn't use the X1 to watch. I had also read that you could cast a DLNA-hosted video to the X1 via an app on Android/iOS so is that no longer the case?

Pretty sure it is entirely a software fix though, so it shouldn't be long before both support 3D BR, or 3D BR dies and James Cameron's soul selling success is up!

Funny that the PS4 thread has turned into a networking thread and this one has turned into an A/V thread.

I wish these suckers played video games :p

On the complaints about the followers, when you go into your account it will show the amount of followers you have, and if you have any new followers, they will be listed at the very front.

Yeah, but when someone actually follows you, it doesn't show up. It doesn't send you a traditional friend request or anything. They simply follow you and if you don't notice and follow them back, they are lost in the mix.

It does show up if you actually go into the followers section. True, we don't get any notification, but if you go to followers, it shows you the most recent people that followed you.

I confirmed it earlier. I have a Panasonic HD cam and my bd-r disks work in the ps4, ps3, and every stand alone player I have tried but the xb1 refuses to read them. The system will read burned DVD media though.

If you don't check in a while, you may not even realize who you didn't follow back yet cause the list is too long.

Anyone remember how the original Xbox wouldn't read burned music CD-Rs, but would sometimes read a CD-RW? This reminds me of that situation. Hah!

Thanks! Hmm, I wonder if our AVCHD burned to DVDs would work.

Got my X1, will hook it up later tonight but I'm swamped at work, always being asked to do 3 things at once with 12-14 hour days argh!

Want to see if Skype works well with it and if it can handle Skype calls while in standby mode or while watching piped in cable TV. Would make a better device in that case than a couple facetiming ipads as christmas gifts...x1 is the same price!

Wonder how restocking will go with this, I know people here said it's available locally but I have found none here and using that stock checker website nobody has it available online but ebay or (newegg/etc) sites with bundles over $850.

I honestly didn't know or really care about the PS4. I bought my Xbox One as I like the platform. I was really hoping to git rid of the PS3 and my 360 (granted the 360 is only staying around because of Bioshock and the season pass I bought) and only keep the X1. I'm really hoping they add this support so I can, outside of that I honestly like the machine well enough. It's pretty much what I was expecting... outside the media support.

Not sure about the particular formats that are supported but "Play To" works fine for the videos I have from both my Windows 8 machine in Windows Media Player and my Lumia for music...

My Xbox One sound issue .
The xbox one is connected using HDMI from Xfinity x1 cable box and out to an Onkyo TX-NR 809 receiver. I have audio set to HDMI 7.1 uncompressed . The receiver is not getting 7.1 sound . My center channel gets no sound at all. What can I do to correct this . I have the latest firmware installed on the Onkyo receiver.
Thanks, John

Yeah DR3 and Forza both took a while. I dont remember if the ps4 installed my games any faster or not. I know AC4 took a while.

Yeah, my Forza install was quite long and it had a 6GB update to get in addition to that! I just swapped over to the PS4 and played some games on that while waiting. :p

Having never used SmartGlass before, what is it supposed to do?

You can use it as a remote for the X1, which includes text entry. I've used it for entering passwords via my password manager on my phone, which is nice since I could just copy and paste.

Where the "everything is an app" sucks is with things like your friends list and achievements. IMO, this stuff should be baked into the OS. When viewing achievements in-game, I don't really feel like I should be taken completely out and into another app. In the end, it's not much different since you can quick-resume back into the game, but it feels disconnected.

It's definitely weird to see a splash screen pop up when you do something simple like view your profile or your friends like that. Maybe that's why the OS feels so disjointed to me compared to the PS4's OS. Although, the PS4 seems to take forever to load its data, so it may seem more cohesive, but it isn't perfect.

I understand the frustration though. I have an HTPC with a Blu-Ray drive, so I don't have any of those problems, but I could only imagine having to rely on the console and being frustrated to no end.

That can still be a costly solution given that you have to pay for the playback software, and only the higher-end versions handle 3D content. I picked up Total Media Theatre when it was on sale for $50, and that's a steal given its MSRP is $100.

I'm just ignoring my 3D content at this point, or I can "settle" for playing it on my other TV (where my PS3 is now), which has a weaker sound system.

Does it work when set to stereo? Try setting it to 5.1, turning off the instant on feature in power & startup then shutting the console down and starting back up. This will do the full startup with the green Xbox logo. Wait for it to start up and see if your surround audio works then. If it does you should be able to select 7.1 and it will work still.

Cmdrdedd,
I tried it and it doesn't work. It seems the xbox one doesn't pass trough audio correctly and the receiver can not deliver surround sound . Reading other forums the same problem is shared. I may have to use it as just a game platform and eliminate the the TV interface.
Thanks

Oh you're trying to get surround from TV? That's a feature that is in beta and you can turn it on.

Go to your OneGuide and TV settings and select troubleshooting. There's an option that says "Surround Sound (Beta)" that is not checked by default. Check that then restart your console. It will then attempt to passthrough the surround signal from Cable and satellite boxes. The reason it's in beta is because MS found some glitches with certain boxes so they won't certify it as fully featured.

I tried that also the center channel gets no sound and the sound quality is weak. I am sure this is a common problem
