I'm sorry, but there is no comparison.

Britain is a country overrun by self shame, political correctness, high taxes, high unemployment, hatred for the rich and successful, and self entitlement.

The United States has a lot of problems, but at least you can be who you want to be here, for the most part. You can defend yourself. You can be successful and get respected for it. We have a huge choice of climates and lifestyles a person can live, from rural farmland to Las Vegas or New York, we have it all.

And Canada, don't get me fucking started on Canada.

Jobless rate US: 9.6%
Jobless rate UK: 7.7%

:whiste:

well, the real truth of this is is right here:

Ray Charles > everything British.

Ray Charles is American

Therefore,

America > England.

:awe:

well, fuck. Ray Charles > just about anything, anyone, and anywhere so...this is hardly fair.

Sucks that peons gotta hate on the country that gave the world Ray Charles, Louis Armstrong, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Al Greene, Sam Cooke, and as one would naturally assume the proper progression: Lady Gaga--but it just sucks to be number 2+, I guess. :\

The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Clash :colbert:

Muddy Waters + Ray Charles + Chuck Berry.

These three guys, especially Muddy, are singly responsible for the music of the Stones, Zeppelin, The Who.

Your turn.

:colbert:

Also, the Beatles would have been far less relevant were it not for Dylan pulling them out of their pop schwag itinerary.

Pink Floyd, Queen, Cream, etc. 😎

UK has had a good share of world class movie directors, but not as many as the USA...
UK
Alfred Hitchcock
Charlie Chaplin
Michael Powell
David Lean
Ridley Scott
Danny Boyle
Shane Meadows
All the Pythons but Gilliam

USA
Orson Welles
Stanley Kubrick
Frank Capra
John Ford
Francis Ford Coppola
Terry Gilliam
Clint Eastwood
Victor Fleming
Steven Spielberg
Quentin Tarantino
Coen brothers

Pink Anderson! :awe:
Andrew Lloyd Webber! ...OK, that's home-grown for you. 🙂
and really? You're saying that Cream is yet another home-grown talent?

Odd. Now I'm curious as to how many awesome, legendary British bands didn't seek their roots from pure American blues.
:hmm:

you left out Apted for the UK. also....what is wrong with Giliam? he's the best director out of all the Pythons! :hmm:

most inventive, anyway; if not a complete mess when it comes to management. heh.

oh, Gilliam is from the USA? Always wondered why he didn't have the accent. Thought it was b/c he dropped it from living over here so long.

The IT Crowd > * modern American comedy shows

Monty Python > * old American comedies

the IT crowd? really?

since when does anyone care about nerd humor?

Monty Python is terrific. no criticism there.....but that's just about where British humor fails to gain general appeal. :\

I left out Apted as my list is essentially just my personal favorites...
Yea, I love Gilliam.. Brazil & Time Bandits especially!

I think Zin's point is that rock was initially based on the Blues, which came out of the USA. Without blues, there would be no rock.

That is true, but if you follow that logic even further then the blues is also based on something that came before, it didn't just spring out of nothing.

well, it all ends in Africa.

so...

Africa > USA~UK.

--but I wasn't really referring to all R&R, just those specific musicians and groups--Keith Richards & Eric Clapton owe 100% of their musical education to guys like Muddy Waters & Chuck Berry. I don't think they shy away from these assertions.

Having high GDP living on borrowed money doesn't really say anything about the economy.

We're decreasing spending, no matter who wins any election in the US you can count on one thing, the spending will increase.
