Okay I reformatted with Kubunto Gutsy but I have a few kinks to work out.

What I've done so far:
Installed ATI drivers for my 9600XT.
Installed non-free codecs for MP3 playback and some video playback
Installed some development and editing software.

A few things I'd like to get some tips/pointers on:
I plan on doing some web development to create my own webpage. A few of the things I'd like to do:
1) Edit videos. Nothing too crazy. Touch ups on resolution, add subtitles, titles, effects.
2) Web publishing. Nothing too crazy with flash, but I'd like nice menus.
3) Photo editing- I already installed GIMP for this, I may dual boot XP for Photoshop.

More tips I'd like:
I want to edit the look of the desktop. I see some people with Linux GUI/Desktops that look nothing like Kubuntu. Kubuntu looks a little too much like Windows for my taste. The whole reason I dropped XP again was because ATI drivers gained a little more support and I'm tired of having to buy software. I'd like the best looking GUI that takes the least amount of resources.

Personally I prefer Gnome to KDE. KDE by default is more resemblant to Windows and Gnome is more resemblant to the layout of Mac OS IMO. Of course the nature of both are that they can be customized to like like damn near anything, but for me Ubuntu + Compiz Fusion + Avant Window Navigator has proven to be my favorite look so far. If I'm on my Ubuntu setup later I'll post some Screenshots.

In regards to Avant -

I installed it the other day on my Mint 4.0 setup. I was expecting it to be some kind of launch bar. Is there a way I can set it up to be a launch bar and have it reside on the top of my desktop? Currently is seems to only show open programs and it's on the bottom of my desktop right over my bar.

BTW Mint Gnome+Compiz=Drop dead gorgeous. What a great and beautiful way to navigate. Now if I could only get it working correctly on my desktop with dual monitors.

There are settings so that you can keep it on top of windows or so that full screen windows stay above the bar. I get to the settings by right clicking the bar.

You can add launchers by dragging and dropping them into the bar, however you have to organize them in the settings IIRC.

After playing with avant some more I realized that I really like it. After dragging icons to the launch toolbar and playing with it, I realize I can also minimize them as well from the same launcher. I didn't know how I felt at first about that but I really like it now.

I also found out that you can't move the avant launcher (yet). But I just moved my toolbar to the top of the screen and it's still fine.

It sure is cool checking out all the cool compiz fusion videos on youtube and doing the exact same thing with the desktop i'm typing from. Awesome.

It really is a great app, hopefully they keep coming out with some creative plug-ins.
