Cautery's package just arrived this morning!

I'll be taking it to the hosting site this afternoon for unpacking and inventory; then since I'm just down the road a ways, I'll be paying a visit to the steel doods.

Digital Cam in hand for pics! (If they allow it in the building... I think they do. ??)

Who's got a web server ??

I have the pics for whomever wants to upload them for everyone to see; PM me.

This is the first rack at the shop; they are putting on the additional space to the steel for an optional HD mount and Floppy disk mount (Not shown)
But at least with these pics, you get the idea.

Other areas that will be adjusted are the front of the cabinet and motherboard mounting plates; an additional piece will be bent in the front to enable those who want to screw down the motherboard
plates to the cabinet. Four holes will be drilled in the top for your optional mounting of more then one cabinet on top or to create a stack of cabinets.

After seeing this, and testing the strength of the combined plates, they will be offering me an option to make the outer shell of the cabinet out of aluminum; the motherboard plates will stay Stainless due to the thickness
and strength already in place.

When you see the motherboard standing against the plate, an additional 4.5 inches will be added to the front of the plate for the hard drive and floppy mounts. (I know I said this in the beginning, but for most of us that have these parts, you'll have what you need if you want it. )

NOW SOMEONE GIVE ME A PM with your email address so I can zip these pics!

The draftsman (woman) is actually who let me in the building and when I told her how long this has been taking, she was very applogetic.
I did mention that if the next order is issued to them, there will be a penalty on a per day basis for being late. In my job I can't afford being
late or I won't have a job to come back to. :Q

Just to clarify what your looking at, the white rails on the top and bottom of the motherboard plates are a very hard plastic to support the steel. They are fastened directly to the rack so they don't move. One thing of concern is you may notice the top of the rack bowing down a bit. It's still very strong even though it's drooping down, but for stainless steel the other six motherboard plates will push the top of the rack where it belongs.
That being said we are looking into the possiblity of using aluminum for the square part of the cabinet and keeping the motherboard plates stainless steel. It will be cheeper, lighter and stronger so the top doesn't bow. We'll see when the number come out on the next report.
You may not see it, but if you look close you'll see a stainless steel plate behind the motherboard. It's not fixed to the motherboard yet, but it's there so you get the idea on how the board is going to be mounted in the rack. In picture **361 imagine the stainless steel extending all the way to the front of the cabinet. That is where you will mount any available hard drive and floppy flush to the steel.
The white stuff you see on the side of the case is just plastic covering to protect the stainless steel from getting scratched. That can come off after everything is assembled.
Two addtions to the rack will be mounting holes in each corner of the top part of the cabinet so you can bolt cabinets together, and stop tabs on the motherboard plates so they don't go back too far and end up cutting off your power supply cables. :Q I suppose if you wanted to get fancy, one could even put threaded holes in the tabs and use thumb screws to lock down the plates from moving.

I'll have to check the specs again for the gauge, but yes it will be strong enough. Being right next to it, I was amazed how much it could hold. It will be even better if I get the go to make it out of aluminum. VERY TOUGH!

Using VNC Tight we won't need vid cards. (Unless of course the board doesn't respond to VNC; in that event the video card doesn't need to attach to anything. The PCI slot is strong enough to hold on to it for the little time it will be used.)

We have a ton of video cards anyhow, so until we run out, every board will probably get one.

You see, I've already comitted to one rack for sure - possibly two depending on the price and my finance situation when they're available for pickup.

BTW, LANMAN, I've decided to donate an entire rig to the cause - maybe you'll end up using it as a server. It's one of my Dual p2-450s IBM workstations.

They're going to modify the rack you saw in the pics and give it to us for free I think. "Prototype"

Then with all the fixes, they will begin the 5 racks I ordered. Once they don't need the prototype anymore, I'll be mounting boards ASAP!!

And when the first boards are mounted... MORE PICS!! :Q

I'll have to swing into the off sale and pick up a bottle of bubbley to give the project a good send off!!
