I don't think MS will backpedal anytime soon. Not saying they won't though. Just saying we can't expect to hear anything for awhile. A decision like that takes time. They have to talk to a lot of different departments. Then of course also backpedalling now sounds like they are doing it because of sony.
For MS, it's better they wait let the gamers vent then backpedal saying "We're doing it for the gamers and what they've expressed to us."
Finally, there are other ways MS can "backpedal" without saying htey did anything wrong.
Heavy bundling would help a lot. 2 free games? Or a year free of Xbox Live?
If I was MS, I'd backpedal on the DRM in 2-3 months, and bundle 2-3 free games or Xbox Live. As it currently is, the only thing MS has is Exclusives, but because most of them are ones we've only seen lame trailers for, vs SONY's actual game play, I don't think you can sell a console for 100 dollars more with this many unanswered questions as of now.
There is a lot of time of course but they do have to convince consumers to pay more which is ALWAYS hard. Right now though, Sony has a couple months head start of good PR. Don't doubt for a second that sony fans, and newly converted sony fans, won't spread "the good word"
