Watch Dogs is a cross gen title too, so it isn't going to exactly going to be amazing looking for next gen. I expect this new gen of consoles will look like PC games at high settings currently, at least for a little while.

Ahh, that explains a lot. Yah, I totally expect the same performance. Given recent PC titles that's a pretty high bar.

PC is always going to lead the pack as far as visuals and graphics are concerned, this dates all the way back to the N64 days even. If you consider the hardware the "next gen" consoles are using, it is already pretty dated as far as a desktop is concerned. It definitely is not new hardware by any stretch. If you primarily game on the PC (like I used to), then console graphics will always look sub-par to you.

ok, not to beat a dead pony, but it's only "dated" to maybe less than 1% of the actual market.

So maybe a handful of people today have $4k systems that will grossly outclass this PS4 by the time it is released...and be worth about the same as that PS4 at that time...but so what?

It has nothing to do with compression. I just don't see anything going on in there that makes me say "Yah, that's totally next-gen" Then again I mostly game on PC so my expectations may be a bit high.

Well the game would definitely look sharper but expecting it to look like a recent PC title is a bit much 😀

Microsoft has already sold me on the idea of a PS4, all they did was make me do a 360.

$100 more because of a spycam/input device I would never want is not a good starting point.

I'm done with the 360 game library and a PC gamer at heart so that leaves only new console games for the xbone to look forward to. The last few generations of consoles (all brands) was never about being better then PC, just easier. A heavy focus on splitscreen co-op would have caught my attention but no one is even talking about "in the same room" co-op in the industry and I feel it's being neglected more and more. And so I'm left getting the PC version or not bothering. I had to go so far as to set up a desk and buy a monitor to leave at my buddies house so I can lug over my desktop for "in the same room" co-op.

The Playstation 4 only gets a pass because I skipped out on Sony's games for so long there's enough "good" ones built up to keep me happy for a long time (I also don't know what I did with my PS1). This all depends on them putting a emulator in the PS4 and adding a lottttt of the older classics from all their consoles to it's library which I expect them to do. Still not pre-ordering.

I also think this is the last generation of honest to god "Consoles" we'll see so it'll be nice to have one and a solid library.

Yea, no. Even my most expensive PC's 15 years ago never cost anywhere near that. PC parts are cheap these days and things have stagnated badly in the last few years. It's that false sense of "omg PC's cost a lot" that makes no sense. Sure you CAN spend a ton of money if you really want to, but you in no way need to.

Yah, you can put together a pretty competent gaming PC for like $800.

$4k??? A $300 video card has more graphics power than a PS4.

You also have to remember its still Beta and now finished being polished yet

Yeah that's true...

I'm not expecting anything amazing at launch, but maybe something that said to me "yep, here's at least one thing new".

But that demo looked like it could have come from a PS3.

Also don't get me wrong, gameplay >>>>> graphics any day of the week.

That's actually pretty cool. But the graphics don't really look next gen to me.

Jimmy says later this year it will be out for ps4. Nov 19 for ps3 and Xbox. So that leaked date of nov 13 for ps4 console release seems about right but people at gamestop mentioned this game would be available when the system comes out.

I wrote a piece on PS4 and Xbox One. I tried to stick to the facts, along with as fair an interpretation as I could. Some have said I was too easy on Microsoft, some think I'm too easy on Sony. Whatever, this is a start. Focused mainly on the systems and launch data.

Let me know what you think! I'm also looking for other articles and info to add as time goes on.

I really appreciate the kind words, both of yall!

Really detailed I liked it, in essence it's all up to the games and how they will take the potential development.

Yeah I do think so. I really do believe that a ton of gamers will eventually end up with both systems this time around. So many great exclusives that people with only one system will end up missing.

I don't think waiting is a bad option either. Start out with one system, enjoy the hell out of it, wait a couple years, and then scoop up the other one, and instantly have a great backlog of awesome exclusives to play. Win/win.

I do think PS4 will have flat out superior cross-platform titles. That combined with the lower price makes me a bit more likely to start out with PS4. I love the hell out of Forza though, so I will pick up a XB1 at some point down the line.

A year or two after I had the ps3 and when I saw the 360 drop price I was going to get one. I just didn't have two tv's haha. So yeah I'll start with my original choice, ps4 and when and if the price on the Xbox goes down or if they don't bundle the kinnect I'll probably think about buying it later.

Give us both options without restrictions and you will get more sales...maybe not at launch but overall in a set time span.

Sheesh...so people who spend $200 making a custom stick are SOL. Although to be fair there are zero fighting games coming to PS4 so this really means nothing.

people who spent $200 making a custom ps3 stick will spend $30 to get a 3rd party ps4 controller and solder it into their stick. ill probably purchase a te2 for x1 but then triple mod my joystick that works on ps3/360 currently. and when ps4 gets some fighters, quad mod it.

Maybe...but as I said. There's zero fighting games coming to PS4 as of right now so it doesn't mean anything.

Yeah mods will; exist in the future but I really don't see why they feel it is necessary to lock out USB arcade sticks from working on PS4 the same as they do on pS3 and PC.

Or just use a Altera Max or Cyclone or something and any time it changes, reconfigure with a firmware change for whatever system you want. Yay soft configurable hardware.

I'm a OEM XBox controller... no wait I'm a OEM PS4 controller... oh wait I'm whatever the fawk I want to be!

cause it's a ps3 controller and they want you to buy a ps4 controller?

and because they want you to buy another $150 - $200 accessory to make money?

pretty obvious

Not so obvious when there is no $150 controller to buy specifically for the ps4.

Technically it's not a PS3 controller either as it works nativley with my PC and does not require the same driver hacks my dual shock 3 would to work on PC.
