Who knows. I suppose you could always just crack open the DS4 and remove/put tape over the LED. It wastes power though. No wonder they don't last too long on a charge.

I don't know why Sony even bothered putting Move functionality into the controller. They want people using motion control but they 1) don't bundle the camera with the console, and 2) don't want to make compelling software that takes advantage of it.

Just spitballing here, but people are acting like sony CAN'T turn the LED off when in reality I just don't think they want to. I haven't noticed it in any other games, but in Infamous the light bar changed color depending on what you were doing. It's possible they want devs to use that feature, and they won't bother if they think everybody has the light turned off. Sony built in the ability to control that color, so it would make some sense that they wouldn't want to throw all that work out the window.

Now I'm not saying it's a GOOD reason, but I think they're perfectly capable of turning off the light on a whim and they just don't want to.

The funny thing is this would be a cheap easy thing for Sony to do. It would kill the two biggest controller issues users have (battery life and an eye sore light). But they won't let you kill it because killing it means killing developer support which would kill the eye which isn't doing well to begin with.

But on the other hand some think MS is going to sell a Kinectless Xbone. They won't for the same reason Sony won't kill the light. Because once it's an option developers instantly become wishy washy on their support.

In thief the light is used to change brightness when you are hiding. I could see how it could be used in other games too.

Not sure where you're getting that info, because the camera is actually doing quite a bit better than expected even though there's not really a reason (yet). It been getting regularly sold out at stores for the last couple months. and even Sony is shocked at how well it's selling. It won't last but it's actually had a pretty strong start as far as selling out current production is concerned.

People are most likely buying it for streaming themselves and having little shows on psn live. It's almost like everyone seems to want to have their own little game talk show.

FWIW I believe Shu tweeted that in a future firmware they will allow the light to be dimmed, but not turned off.

I've seen it change as well. But you know what? They shouldn't have put it on the front of the controller if that was the intended functionality. I might spot it every now and then, usually when I swap controllers because the batteries died.

That light is a damn waste of battery. I don't care what anyone says devs aren't going to do shit with it except change the color at certain times or dim it while your playing a certain spot. I don't look at the controller while I play, so I could give a rats ass about the light, let the people who want it off to be able to turn it off

Because they originally planned to have the camera bundled with the system just like Microsoft did, that's why the light bar is in the controller. I thought everyone knew this. They made the decision last minute to sell the system without the camera to beat Microsoft at price. It's not like they could change the controller design at the last minute.

Yeah that was covered recently my response was regarding the fact that they could turn it off but won't. Something I agree with. They won't because it's needed in games for the eye (basically moving PS3 Move into the controller). Since the eye is already optional if they offered controllers without the light or allowed users to turn the light off, it would basically destroy it's development in general games.

It's why comparatively MS won't sell a One with without a Kinect. They want all games to eventually integrate (not dominate) components of the Kinect into game play. Or at least let the developer decide if it fits. Not table these features because they don't know the Kinect penetration in their targeted market.

I do apologize for stating low sales on the eye. I didn't realize the Voyeur crowd was that big. Then again Youtube is as massive it is for a reason. I just don't know anyone including myself that got one for gaming reasons.

Guess I didn't. :whiste:

I've noticed the light does work for some games. In Killzone, it shows your health. While cool, it's kind of superfluous. I'm looking at the TV when I'm playing, not my hands.

So not having the eye in the first place wouldn't slow development but turning off the light will? It would be simpler to just allow the user to the disable the light, but have the system override the setting when the eye is plugged in.

I bet once they can figure out how to make the PS4 cheaper they will stick the PS-Eye in the box and keep selling at $400 instead of lowering the price.

Sony needs the PS-Eye to catch on just as much as MS needs the Kinect, because both companies are trying to lure the casuals market who prefer simpler motion controls over more complex titles.

Simpler? Waving and waggling and yelling and dying vs pressing the jump button.

Especially hilarious when more than half the time, the motion controls don't work and cause you to fail or die. A simple button press could have made that part so simple.

Am I right in thinking I cannot play video from a USB stick through my PS4? I did a quick Google and it appears not from the search summaries, but I can't really read anything in detail because all of the relevant sites are blocked here.

You can save videos and pics on to a usb stick. But yea you can't play them back on the ps4 it seems. Have you tried exporting a video to usb then going back into share factory to try and play it?

Have not tried anything yet; going to fiddle with it tonight but just thought I would check to see if it was even worth bothering.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the update was just for one way transfer to the USB stick. I don't think you can transfer back to the console or play from the stick.

The future of ps4 will be decent, just because you read a an article that was pro Xbox doesn't mean much. You should do more research on sites that are not bias.

Mlb the show is out Tuesday. If any of you get it send me a friend request, I'll be picking mine up on the way home from work. I'm pretty pumped about this game.

You are in my friends list. I'll message you if I get it. Looks good and even though I never played a baseball video game, I like that this has the road to the playoffs player mode like 2k14 so I'll get to learn it.

The New Super Mario Bros games specifically haunt me... can't count how many times I wanted to jump or fly where you have to shake the stupid controller... only for nothing to happen.
