A bunch of reviews went up for Infamous, and on metacritic it is running at 85 right now. A lot of lower reviews mention the things I was a little worried about, so there is a part of me that just wants to wait, but since I have the money for it and there is nothing else coming out to pass the time until MLB the show comes out, I may just go ahead and buy it on disc and give it a shot.

I didn't play much past the first game and I felt is was kinda cool so I'll be able to jump to this one without issues. This game looks like a lot of fun. Most meta critic scores are 85 and above if you look at the major sites.

The reviews aren't that bad at all to me. If you avoid the no name sites giving lower than average scores for clicks. Hell knack and ryse got worse reviews but werent terrible games. The only major issues are that the morality is black and white. Either you pick the bad guy route and are rewarded for mass destruction and never have any reason to be a do-gooder or you go the good guy way and never have any reason to take the evil route. They also said that there isn't a reason written into the story for the main character to do some of what he does or the indifference some of the side characters have to it. There is no moral gray area so that might feel dated. Also some of the characters aren't fleshed out and seem to be tossed aside after their mission is complete. Even still every review seems to praise the superhero style combat and the varying styles of powers you get from your moral choices. Bad guys can blow stuff up with ease while good guys can stop time to do pinpoint strikes on the bad guys and avoid civilian casualties.

The day one patch adds 5 hours of additional gameplay too. They said they will release new content every week for 6 weeks...for free.

If they are true to their word anyway heh. Sucker Punch has also suggested that in April you will be able to pre-load games off PSN.

I wasnt a huge fan of the first two but had heard they improved the gameplay on this one. Plus it sounds like the story and side quests are pretty hollow in this one.

I was surprised to see some of the bigger review sites giving the lower scores.

Not enough burly meatheads and assault rifles I guess.

Who cares about "bigger review sites" anymore, they have proven to be worthless rubber stamps to mainstream marketing and expectations.

Ignoring the usual stupid shit that exdeath spews, these are all good points. Like I said, I've got the money for it and wouldn't mind something else to play right now, so I am sure I will grab it tomorrow. I am glad they focused on gameplay and graphics, but hopefully the next infamous will have a lot more story in it and things will be a little more fleshed out than they appear to me on this one.

The bigger sites like ign and GameSpot are the only ones who don't have to give a super low or super high score on purpose just to draw clicks from people checking metacritic or game rankings. I take their review with a little bit more weight than some site nobody has heard of.

ign's scoring process makes absolutely no sense. they will pick apart a game and then give it like a 9.5, and vice versa. i'll read them sometimes but the final score is meaningless.

IGN and Gamestop seem to rate competitive shooters, and cinematic action games unreasonably high. Even if the game has rampant, blatantly obvious issues, it can score a 9/10 easily. I consider their opinion on those sorts of games nearly meaningless as a result, since they've shown time and time again that they can't be trusted with those game types.

Meanwhile, if it's a game in a genre the reviewer doesn't understand, or a game that dared to try something new.... it could get rated down several points, due to the reviewer not understanding how to control the game properly. Or misunderstanding a key gameplay concept, that's fairly obvious.

It's frustrating. But, that's why it's good to look for patterns in what's being said about a game, rather than rely on a single review site. But I especially don't trust IGN or Gamestop's opinions, compared to all other review sites.

Anyway, with Infamous Second Son, it sounds like reviewers have a consensus that it plays like a prettier Infamous game, with some fun new powers. But didn't try to change the formula too much from previous Infamous games.

I think it's safe to say if you liked the previous games and enjoyed them, then you will like this one too. If you are expecting something completely new then you may not like it.

I don't see why we can't get it to turn off. It's kind of sophisticated I suppose if you need firmware for the controller as well as the system. But I imagine it's powered by an led so dimming it should use less power. I don't expect battery life to be better unless it is off.

I guess the dimming makes the most sense, especially for households like mine where a lot of time my wife and I are playing coop, so we know which controller is which if we have to go do something. I just hate how bright it is. I know a lot of people think that it is a petty thing to complain about, but seeing the reflections of a bright blue and red light in my tv kind of breaks the immersion at times.

To be honest I watch movies in the dark and play games in the dark too and the light bar has not annoyed me. What has though is the battery life. I have to charge every other day. My ps3 was charged like every I her week or so.

Yeah for some people it's not an issue, but for me it's annoying. I am just glad that both MS and Sony seem like they are going to be quick at fixing things that the community doesn't like, to a certain degree.

yeah that is great news about the light dimming, still wish it could just turn off and don't see why they don't just allow that if they can control the dim on it. i play in the dark in my theater and it can be annoying during darker parts of games. nothing to cry about but it's just distracting and you can notice it for sure. it can mess with the contrast.

its similar to when you are watching tv in the dark, and your cellphone screen or laptop is in the line of sight to the tv. it is just annoying and can mess with the contrast of the image due to your eyes trying to adjust. it's obviously not that drastic, but that is the type of effect i've seen with it.

The light bothers me. I have to hide the controller under my couch when I am watching a movie. Very happy to see they will be addressing the issue.

My game playing sessions are not long enough to have the battery be a problem, thankfully.

Light is mostly annoying when it's just left at it's default 1000000 lumen blue state. At least orange or something less glaring.

I've never had the controller run out on me while playings it's just annoying to charge it every other day if I end up playing a couple hours every one or two days.

Don't know why you just can't turn the lightbar off. It's only really necessary if you have the camera, which few people do. Even them, I don't know of any games that actually support that feature.

Hopefully they release a Bluray remote for the PS4 like they had with the PS3.
