Quotes from Critics:

"More repetitive and unsatisfactory than we expected"
"Generic level design"
"A world without magic"
"The story is also a convoluted mess"
"It's not the most innovative or the most visually dazzling game."
"Checkpoint hiccups, framerate issues, and difficulty spikes"
"Knack is best described as a PSOne title in shiny modern clothing."
"Proof that charm isn’t always enough."
"Knack desperately wants to be the 3D platformers of old, but dull combat and a half-hearted story leave it difficult to recommend."
"Repetitive gameplay on top of being frustratingly difficult at times."
"Playing Knack is like watching a dull movie on a plane – it's tolerable if all you want is a way to pass the time, but it's not something you'd seek out for its own sake."
"There's nothing to recommend "

Players:

"The gameplay is simple and very bland"
"Finished it in 8 hours."
"Terrible, terrible game"
"Knack was bland, boring, repetitive, short and unoriginal."
"Bland environments, very repetitive combat, lousy characters and storytelling,"
"Knack also suffers from lag. A LOT of lag. This makes several of the boss battles throughout the game incredible frustrating."
"Never has a game made me rage with so much... disappointment!?"

way to cherry pick quotes. i also question the guy who talks about lag. never once did i see any "lag" in the game.

now for another exercise - why don't you go find the positive quotes that people have said about it from this thread right here. you probably won't though because it doesn't help your agenda.

and no one is saying knack is an amazing game, just that it's a solid, fun platformer. it probably wouldn't be getting a 2nd look if it wasn't a launch title. but then again, that has been the case with pretty much every console launch since the n64.

Heh, I was just about to fire up Knack for another play through the other night, but I got distracted by Game of Thrones. Soon though; I like the game. /shrug

KT

the majority of people i've been hearing criticizing the game about how bad it is are people like Fulle who have not played it.

Seriously Fulle... What don't you understand about "subjective"???

Do you truly think that everyone should only play games (and movies and music) that are critically acclaimed? And acclaimed by metacritic user feedback?

I doubt it. At this point, you are just being obtuse and argumentative.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

From another thread...

Do you not understand, that giving an opinion based off of zero actual time trying something, adds nothing to the conversation?

It's like, if I watched a movie trailer, and then came into a forum where people were discussing the movie, and said "this movie is boring" and then when the people who watched the whole movie say "No it's not. Did you even watch it?", I tried to defend my position "I watched the trailer, and I think it should have been more exciting, so the movie is boring."

That's basically how you're coming across. That's how you sound. You should be embarrassed.

Are you often an enormous hypocrite?

Nice find, but I've watched a lot of let's play footage on Knack, so it's not really the same situation. Literally watched a couple hours of the game around when the PS4 launch was happening.

I guess the second quote only applies to others, huh?

I was responding to someone who played a 5 minute intro of an RPG and wrote the game off. I've watched a few hours of footage of people playing Knack, since I was seriously considering getting the game for my daughter, since platformers are her favorite game type. So, yeah, not exactly the same situation there.

I equated that as he watched a movie trailer and tried to talk about the movie. This is more like having watched most of Twilight in small pieces, and not wanting to sit down through the whole movie, since you get the gist of it being absolutely terrible.

But, I'll probably pick Knack up at a Redbox soon, just like I did ultimately end up watching Twilight. I think experiencing a bad movie or game can help you appreciate the good ones more.

lol @ Wingznut calling him out. i hope i remember this when the ownage thread of the year comes up in atot in december. this will be my nomination.

lol @ Fulle once again cherry picking quotes from previous posts on atot about the game because they fit his agenda, and not picking the quotes from all of us that enjoy it. hell there is one from KT like 5 posts above his that talks about how he likes it enough for a 2nd play through, but he conveniently skipped it.

lol @ Fulle now claiming he has watched "hours" of Knack gameplay. i guess he spends his time watching things for hours that he doesn't like. awesome way to spend time.

I'm able to watch gameplay vids while I work, due to the nature of my job, but I'm not able to drag a console in here. Knack was one of the only games that fit the bill for a potentially kid friendly platformer at the PS4's launch. It's not that weird I gave it a look...

I mean, you're doing something similar right now, with being on a gaming forum and all.

I'm not seeing my posts in there. I seemed to enjoy it quite a bit since I finished it twice and I haven't traded it in yet. Why there is so much hate toward Knack I will never understand.

I think the problem is stating a game isn't worth it just based on a score others give it. Sure I never played the thief games before but I ended up buying theif 4 after reading subjective reviews and watching others stream it.

The only things you u get from watching a stream is a sense of either the game play being boring or exciting. But you can't really tell for yourself until you try it.

Personally people grilled the thief game so much but I seem to like it. Even if you aren't sure renting from a redbox and stating your opinion that its a bad game is more valid than just going off of scores and critiques.

Rent it and try it. If you like it you can get it for 30 bucks on eBay. If not you lost a couple of bucks.

Just an observation....

When I try to say a good game is bad, people form arguments explaining why I'm mistaken, and point out numerous things the game excels at.

When I bring up a bad game is bad, I get a lot of "that's a subjective opinion" "reviews don't matter" "graphics don't matter" and other such nonsense responses. Oh, and personal attacks.

I just watched the 30 min of second son play through and im very impressed with the game so far. It was mostly a discussion of the effects and things in the game. Looks very promising.

Doesn't anyone still have rental stores to try out such games first? Theres a couple near me that has some Xone and PS4 games already. I love weekend rentals, cheapest way to really see if I'll like a game or not first hand.

Rental stores are pretty much done here in the east coast. We do have red boxes here and sometimes they carry ps4 and xb1 games most of the time.

Nope none here either. Video/Game rental stores have pretty much gone out of business except for few small ones that are spread out.

Well that's all you need. Providing they carry new games. It's awesome. We have a family video, daves video and one other I think. All small time, local stores but they still do good business, especially with games.

Yeah, there's that. But at $16/month for one game at a time... I couldn't justify the subscription. I'm sure many others find it worthy, though.

It used to be a lot cheaper like 8-9 bucks at one point. I never tried it and usually I have seen redbox loaded with ps4 games and xb1 too. But they aren't available at any redbox.

Just reserved infamous. Weird that it is releasing on a Friday. Keep an eye on psn live, there are a few users who will get the game early and stream it in other countries.

One user in Canada does reviews and streams early as well and sometimes gives games away on his channel. Going to be fun watching some streams in the next week or so.
