I guess as of now they are hovering around $800.I know nothing of the software.I remember paying 289.00 for my 1st CDRW back in early 99.What are we looking @ in terms of when the cost will be OK?(IE $300 OR LESS),what does media run?Post ANY and all info on this.😀
What about System requirements, can movies/home videos be recorded?
Id like this thread to be a wealth of info for those curious, anyone who knows anything OT please post, curious minds want to know!

A few years ago they cost $4000. Last year it was down to $2000, and now they are $999 retail but can be picked up for ~$800 online. I'd say they won't be in the $300 range until next summer.

Right now the Pioneer DVR-AO3 is $800, and the LF-D311 is only $500 but it's DVD-RAM. Blanks are $10 ea when purchased in quantity (5-10+).

I'm looking forward to it as much as the next guy, but if you're waiting for that magical $299 price, expect to wait another year to summer 2002 unfortunately. It won't be affordable until the next best thing (hdtv-dvd?) is out.

Hell, I picked up a top-of-the-line (then, anyway) 12x burner 6 months ago and they already have 24 speeds out now!

I've seen the Pioneer on ProceGrabber/PriceWatch for $600 or so lately.

FWIW, I saw blank DVDs (-R, -RAM or +RW, I don't remember which) at MicroCenter last night. So, some devices must already be out there.

A current Computer Shopper has an article about the various dvd drives, but id rather the anadtech take.Im soo looking foward to burning movies etc. 🙂
The singular advantage imo the vhs has over dvd. Great info thus far!

whenever their prices lower to a reasonable range, i am soo getting one. imagine, being able to write gigs and gigs of data....no more having to use several cd's to backup! *drool*
