does it actually work? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!link

edit:
obviously this is quickly becoming a national crisis.
driving less and consolidating trips is easy...but you have to heat your home up north.

please also post your home heating and fuel saving tips here.
fall is coming and it isnt going to be cheap.

edit 10/17:
fall is here, do you pay for heat?
lets get some tips for those in older homes to keep that furnace running less.
i read that putting your water heater thermostat to 120 and keeping showers to under 5 minutes helps.

I haven't tried it, but I will once I get my BMW working again. I see no reason for it not too.

I have recently tried this in my Ferrari and I can verify it works 1000% better than what they claim.

Other additives I've found to boost performance are: Gun powder, deer urine, sugar, the blood of Thai prostitutes, and Techron.

YMMV.

Edit: Contrary to popular belief, sand will NOT boost performance.

not looking to boost performance, simply increase fuel economy.
edit, i guess that can be looked at as boosting performance as well, but you know what i am getting at.

Lower thermosstate 2 degrees.

If you have zones, simply don't use them when not using the area.

Accelerate slowly.

Anyhing else?

Where can you buy acetone for less than 2.50 a gallon or so?

I wouldn't put acetone in my engine. It might dissolve seals or hoses.

If you drive a manual, try this. Once you get to 2nd gear, floor it, and then shift below 3000rpm. Repeat. Supposedly BMW recommends this method.

Interesting. I'll try this for the next few days. If nothing else, it'll be fun as hell. :)

Change oil at intervals specified by the owner's manual, which is probably more than 3000 miles. That $20 oil change may not be necessary, and could buy you $20 worth of gas instead.

This does work, but you must short-shift, and it only works with gasoline engines, not diesels. The reason is that it dramatically reduces the "pumping losses" that an engine experiences when having to suck air through a throttled opening. This is why it doesn't work for diesels, since diesel engines do not have a throttle butterfly.

one problem.. the guy is basing his mileage rating based on scan gauge..
problem the computer only sends out estimated gas mileage, not actual gas mileage.

What should be done is testing based on actual MPG gotten rather than estimated mpg from the computer.. cause the computer is calculating it based on rate of flow.

Now i doubt acetone will help improve gas mileage, and now sure they are using very small amounts, and while acetone is used in many fuel injector cleaners, in the end result, you just get a slightly cleaner intake valves and injectors and that's about it.

I doubt that 20mpg claim the guy says from his NEON can be warrented,.... 20MPG.. i doubt it. I will call SHENS!!!

edit: good point ZV on the diesel .. i call SHENS on diesel.

AMEN!!! Acceleration is probably the largest gas using stage of your vehicle. Keeping acceleration reasonable can greatly increase fuel economy.

Also, try to keep moving if at all possible. If you see a red light, slow down before you get to the light and try to keep moving as much as possible. If you know the light patterns, it might be easier. Remember,

moving car > 0 mpg...sitting in traffic stopped = 0 mpg.
