Hadn't had Carl's Jr. in awhile so my stepson and I stopped by the other day. He ordered a superstar w/cheese meal large. Just shy of $19!! if we had more time I should've walked out with him and went to Chili's right next door for that price!
Personally I'd take Carl's Jr over Chili's any day. At least the Carl's Jr in LA (they became trash in San Antonio, nowhere near the quality they are in Cali).

I'm curious how expensive Fatburger is now. I remember the Kingburger fat fries and Coke combo was like $11 in 2008 when I moved out of LA, can't imagine what it runs now. Been back to LA a couple of times since then but never did check Fatburger again so I can't image the sticker shock on that meal in 2024.

I found some maple raisin bran at the grocery outlet, and it's fucking delicious. Take note @IronWing, it reminds me of BucWheats. That's a distant memory, so it might be off, but it's really good. I'm hoping they have more when I go this weekend. I want to get a few more boxes. I'll store it in the fridge if I have to. I'll also check at Wegmans next time I go, but my usual grocery shopping isn't at standard grocery stores, so I can't check if they have it.

I looked for it at Safeway and bought some. They're pretty good. Don't think they taste too much like buckwheats, but similar. Too many raisins in there. I've always liked maple flavor.

Ever eat Maypo? Only hot cereal I really liked. Apparently Amazon carries it.

Here's the original commercial.

I'll try to remember to look for that locally, or put on my next amazon order. My hot cereal consumption is mostly limited to winter, and it's usually just steel cut oats with butter and salt, but I like other stuff. Cream of Wheat is good with butter and brown sugar. Has a sort of coppery taste I like. Haven't had that in years.

Cream of Wheat is one of my comfort foods, especially after coming in from a cold winter day. Nutritional profile of it means I don't eat it anymore though.

Malt-o-Meal is delicious. Reg, chocolate, or maple, mmm. Hot Ralston is good too.

None of the DQ's around me have the food part just ice cream (1stworldproblem!) Anywho I was near one today. So I had to get the OG Chicken Strip basket.

Firstly, Country Gravy as a dipping sauce is elite, and I can't think of another fast food place that has it. Dipping chicken strips in Ranch is cool, but peppery white gravy is a better option IMHO. They also offer Cheese Curds for a side instead of fries, they are elite. Well, I don't know about DQs, I've never had theirs. But in general, they're one of my favorite appetizers.

The Texas toast was toasted nice, the gravy was pretty good, and pretty peppery. The fries were crunchy and had the right amount of salt. This is Dairy Queen we're talking about. But as far as fast food, it was as good as I remember. Their website made a point to mention they make their Ranch in house. I have no idea if this is real or bullshit. But I got a side of it, and it was definitely a lot better than most fast food places. But I ended up mostly just dipping everything in the gravy. Texas Toast in gravy is really damn good.

I was full and over an hour from home so no Blizzard, but I used to love the chicken strip basket and a blizzard for desert. That used to be some of the best fast food eating. Before the lone DQ with food in my city closed down :(

JiTB brought back the chicken strips with 2 new sauces.

I got the spicy version, which aren't really all that spicy, but I'm a chili head and the there is a noticeable heat here. So for what it is, they're spicy I guess. These are surprisingly good, they're pretty crunchy and not overly dry inside. And they're very meaty and don't have half an inch of breading. I will say I ordered the 5 stip box. And I got 2 strips and like 7 larger nugget sized chunks. These are much better than Canes IMHO, and they introduced 2 new sauces to go with them, Bacony Buttermilk Ranch & Honey Garlic Sriracha.

Now it wouldn't be Jack in the Crack if they didn't either screw up my order, or get it right but cook it poorly. There's no in between there. The strips were cooked well, the curly fries were underdone, they weren't just cold'ish they were missing the crunch. And I selected 2 of each sauce in the app. I got 2 Bacony Ranch and 2 Honey... Mustards. I HATE MUSTARD! I should have checked my bag, but foolishly I didn't. There was no option when I ordered for honey mustard, so it was all their fault - as usual. As good as they were, I have a feeling if I went back to the same location in a week and ordered the same. They'll probably be so overcooked and hard I'd chip my tooth on one lol.

I find most things bacon flavored to be pretty meh, it's apparently difficult to make a fake bacon that tastes like bacon and tastes good. This stuff's DELICIOUS, it's very Bacony, and no weird aftertaste. I know Jack's famous for LTOs that are only around for a few weeks. A couple people on Reddit have claimed both sauces are permanent. But I don't trust random Redditors, I know how JiTB operates, so I gotta go try the honey garlic sriracha before they discontinue it. And I'll be getting the bacon ranch every time I go until they drop it.

IMHO, the strips should be a permanent item, but I know they won't be. So they'll be gone in a month or something. And then brought back in in 2025 for another 4 weeks. I understand these aren't hand breaded like Canes. But they actually have seasoning, and there's a spicy version which is mildly spicy. The fact a non chicken place can out chicken Canes really says a lot. I know Cane has a lot of die hard fans. It sucks, I had it last week. The sauce is good, the fries are decent, the bread is okay, the cole slaw is very mid. And the chicken is the most boring bland shit ever. Yes everything there tastes better when you dunk it in sauce. But then it's like you're eating thing. And I don't find the sauce to be the end of the world greatest sauce ever people make it out to be. Bacony Ranch is now my new favorite fast food sauce.

They also now have waffle strips, which you can get by themselves or in a chicken n waffle combo.

I tried Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers' new Prime Steakburger. I expected a good quality burger, but it was also thinly sliced prime rib on top. With Swiss cheese, grilled onions and mushrooms. Pretty good, would stop again next time I have a craving for fast food!

Oreo Coke Zero is… not bad. It tastes like chocolate cream soda but is very sweet. Cutting the sweetener a bit would improve the taste.

I think Oreo Coke Zero only, no regular sugar version. I tried it and basically have the same opinion as IronWing. I won't buy it again, not because I don't like it, but because I like Cherry Coke Zero much better and you can't buy Oreo in anything bigger than 20oz which costs about the same as 2 liter of Cherry.

We work overnights , so yes he had to reheat his "lunch" at 1 am.
When I worked overnights, we used to have a pizza place near by that was open until 2am, and mcdonalds and white castle were 24 hours, and places like taco bell had drive through until like 2am or later.... But that was a long time ago.

Got a Wendy’s limited time Krabby Patty tonight. Standard Wendy’s burger the sauce was different that typical but overall it was good.
Side info:
Early on in my relationship with my wife for whatever reason we enjoyed watching sponge bob Sunday mornings. I picked up two Krabby Patties from Wendy’s and we watched some sponge bob episodes, it was a wonderful time.
She’s a vegetarian so I ordered one without the meat, the Wendy’s folks were kind enough to say “we will make it with extra love so it will be great” and they put the unused patty in a separate container which 1/4 went to the dog and 3/4 went on mine.
I appreciate the extra love and I liked how I got some extra and the pouch had some.
Fine burger Wendy’s, exceptional service. Thank you.
