Popeyes has a banging deal right now with the free chicken sandwich with $10 spent combined with the $6 Big Box meal, which is 2 pc chicken or 3 pc tenders + biscuit + 2 sides for $6. But if you make both sides large @ $1.95 each you get your subtotal to $9.90. Then add a 50 cent sauce (or 75 cent wing sauce) to get to the $10 threshold and you get a free chicken sandwich. So I did that with red beans and rice as my sides, threw those both in the fridge for later, and treated the free chicken sandwich as the side to my tenders order. Not bad for the price of two large red beans and rice I got two large red beans and rice, 3 spicy tenders, biscuit, a signature hot wing sauce, and a spicy chicken sandwich. And the red beans and rice always seem to taste better the next day after being in the fridge.

Popeyes did make the most kick ass chicken of the major chains but the last time I ate there they had done something with their spice recipe and taken all the flavor out of their breading.

Then that went waaaaaay downhill, followed by Popeye's 2019 chicken sandwich, which kicked off the Chicken Sandwich Wars:

Chick-Fil-A remains my sole fast food weakness. It doesn't help that the kids love it, and it's quick.

With that said, McD's breakfast is a go-to when one of the kids are sick. Just trying to recreate some of my childhood for them 🙂

Possible repost, Shake Shack announces the Big Shack for $9.99 which is supposedly a better and more expensive burger than McD's Big Mac. I'll give it a shot (for science) but it won't be a regular purchase for me.

I agree but would add that it's definitely overpriced, so I tend to only eat there when:

1) they have BOGO offers
2) new seasonal burgers, some have been great, others meh.
3) no other choice

It's priced comparably to Five Guys, good cheeseburgers from a restaurant are just really expensive now 😕 My favorite good local burger place is also priced similarly.
I don't have a Shake Shack within a reasonable distance, but I do have a Five Guys and even then I only get food there every few months. The local place would get more of my business if they weren't closed Sundays.

I thought 5 Guys was pretty exceptional for what it is, and their holy shit that's a lot of fries serving size :^D I've only been a couple times though, and it's been a couple years.

Neither is really beyond what a good home-made burger can be if made by a competent person, IMO. There has been 1-2 occasions where Five Guys fell short of what I'd normally expect.
But overall, there's no comparison between them and BK, McDonald's... Wendy's is maybe closer, but very much lacks consistency, on a good day they're competitive, on a bad day, still generally at least better than BK/McD's.

I do love Culver's. Yeah, when I finally tried In'n'Out, I also found it to be "fine". I like Dick's more. Plus it gives me the opportunity to talk about eating a bag of Dick's, or how I love filling my mouth with hot, fresh Dick's, and so forth. Endless fun.

I'm sure you're right about the relative quality; but as a cheap bastard, Five Guys' prices just don't make sense to me.

That's why I've only gone a couple times. I've pretty much quit all (semi)fastfood at this point. The experience is worse, and the prices are high. *The only place I've been in the last year is tacobell. It's become a tradition to stop in after doing treework, as long as there's one on the way home.

*I do occasionally go to wawa if that's considered fastfood. Their annual gobbler bowl/sub should be out soon(now?), It's like the old thanksgiving school lunch, which doesn't have much to recommend it, but I still like it, and honestly prefer to real turkey.
