PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE people!!! Take some time in listing your likes and dislikes. It is very likely that your Secret Santa does not know you at all. Give him/her a hint of what you like. I ended up sending a gift certificate last year because I had no clue from my guy and I could not find out anything from his posts.

And listing just "computers" is useless.

As for me, here is what I got last year, which was perfect:

I listed Treo 650, and I got a Treo 650 skin;
I listed San Francisco 49ers, and I got a 49ers t-shirt (which I still have and love);
I listed food, and I got a yummy beef stick.

You get the picture?

(Of course, I was lucky because my SS was a girl, and they are more thoughtful in their gift giving, IMO.)

Man I really haven't been around here much this year, but I'm so TOTALLY in again this year.

As for likes/dislikes I really agree that they're hard to fill out, but very important. I personally have listed my Amazon wish list the last few times.... not necessarily so someone can pick an item on it, but because it's usually much easier to get a feel for a person if you can see a handful of items that they'd spend their own money on. Not to mention that you'll often stumble on specific models of things people own as opposed to getting a Like of "video games" or "computers"

Can someone provide a dos and don'ts (in other words, gift ettiquette) of the ATOT Secret Santa. Some questions I have:

Should the gift always be something new (for instance, someone states their likes/wants is a dvd burner and I have a very good used one lying around. Would sending it as the gift be considered rude?)?

Should you include the receipt with the gift (in case there's a problem with the gift)?

Is there anything off limits?

It doesn't have to be new (but make sure its fully functioning, relatively new looking and not a POS) Im gonna put my foot down and say used underwear is unacceptable though.

You can include a gift receipt or if you dont mind your SS knowing how much you spent, an actual receipt with the gift. I recommend just getting a gift receipt if you purchase something from a store.

Things that are off limits:
Dead bodies
Gifts under $20
Live bodies

Other than that, use your discretion. When you get matched with someone take time to look through their posts.

Yay! I'm back from missing last year. Self imposed because I was very late in sending my gift two years ago. :eek:

Likes: I like to experience things that my Secret Santa has around them. I find local things are pretty neat. For instance, one SS sent me things from his home in Massachusetts. Cranberry chocolates and a local calendar that had awesome recipes each month. That was cool.

Of course, one Secret Santa knew my dislikes too well and sent me one those items. Bastard! :D

Signed up and looking forward to it. Gift giving is so much more memorable when it is for someone who really matters, and AT forum members are great peoples!
