everyone gets so pissed about reposts, let it go, sometimes people miss the original thread and then they can catch the news in a repost just browsing through stuff. I really couldn't care less if someone reposts something as long as the other thread isnt on the front page.

it's not just reposts. It's stoopid people who are like "I'm too lazy to click the damn link to read the FAQ or Help, so I'll take the time to click the 'new thread' button, type out my question, and click the button to post it."

But that's just it. It takes more effort to write up a title and question then enter in a word or two and hit search.

Well, the poll is rude . . . it denegrates the newbies who are just coming to grips with the forum idiosyncracies.

There are so many many new members that deserve a welcome instead of ridicule.

Plus AT Forums are more sophisticated than many other forums with very limited search engines (if at all).

How much time does it really take for an experienced member to kindly pont out that their question has been posted a hundred times before and that there is also a forum FAQ?

I think we experienced members often take this Forum and it's excellent features for granted. If the newbies stick around they too may have much to contribute.

We're just having some fun razing them that's all :) I'm sure they can take it. It's like the Anandtech fraternity and it's hell week ;)

Well, you did ask for comments.

:)

I am glad you also mentioned it was in fun. And yes, I am sure they can "take it".

Seriously, though, it USED to really bother me seeing so many duplicate posts. Somehow, it doesn't anymore (although I will still mention the "search" feature from time-to-time). The members (and not just newbies) who don't use it are missing out on a great deal. Plus their threads often just go unanswered.

Yeah, I usually let it go. For some reason tonight I had to vent. I'm glad you posted above so that I can mention that it's all in jest. Thanks.

I had the same "venting" problem tonight in Hot Deals. I also forgot to mention I was joking and I got a few people irritated.

Perhaps I was overcompensating here.

Gotta love it. IT's like they're either blind, oblivious or just plain dumb. It's not likes its difficult to READ and comprehend. We need to have Anand's Hooked on Phonics review course for these kids :)

If AT wants a suggestion (notice this is also "tongue in cheek"), they should have a simple exam designed to test the new applicants for membership - to make sure they know and have read the Forum FAQs, know where the search engine is, understand the "rules" of Hot Deals or FS/T (IF they post there), know what the requirements for Senior, Golden Diamond and Elite are - ONLY after passing will they be accepted as a member.

;)

I agree with Snow. If you can screw in a light bulb i'm pretty sure you can use the search engine too. Type in a keyword and get results. Not that hard.
