The occasional xp crash?

I'll start from the begining. About 2 months ago I upgraded MB, CPU, memory, and OS. See Sig.

I upgraded hardware and installed XP pro. I had lots of stability problems til I found the Dragon+ only likes 2 pci cards and should be put in the last 2 slots. After moving the cards my system was almost as stable as 2000 instead of worse than 95. My ATI MMC upgrade fixed my stability porblems with the TV.

I still have 2 problems that may or may not be related.
First is Internet Explorer. This program crashes at least once a day. My event viewer says Event Type:

Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000

Description:
Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2600.0, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 6.0.2713.1100, fault address 0x00033f51.

There is another pointing to the same .dll and another pointing to different .dll. IE usually closes all windows and sends error report. Yesterday it crashed and I had a secure window open and it didn't close.

The second seems to happen mostly after sitting idle for a while then comming back to it. I have my power settings to turn off monitor and stand by set to never. When move the mouse or tap keyboard the system crashes bigtime. Bsod for a second and reboot. Sometimes this happens before the welcome screen comes up other times I will log on my user and start a program and it will Bsod for a second and reboot. Upon reboot it will say windows has recovered from a serious error in the send error report box.

If I could get these two things fixed this xp system would be truly as good or better than when I was running 2000. :Q I like most of the features that 2000 didn't provide.

I hope some of you have some ideas for me. Thanks

try disabling hibernation
control panel/printers and other hardware/power options/hibernation tab disable apply

ie 6 sometimes has trouble with non enabled msn messenger either set it up or search for the delete from registery fix thru command line prompt about a month ago it fixed mine but since i'm on msn now i reinstalled xp to enable it and no more crashes either way yes it was happening to me lol

as was the hibernation problem but just taking forever to come out of hibernation and xp loves ram my 256 might not be enough for the old girl so disabling hibernation solved that

hope this helps if not let it serve as a bump😉

I had a check mark in there I cleared it but on the first tab I had hibernation set to never so I don't know if it will help anything or not. Worth a try though. I have 768 Meg of RAM so I don't think that is the problem.

As for msn messinger I did remove it and I think I did the registry deletion that is on tweakxp.com. I can't remember so I will check that also.

Thanks I hope this works.

Edit/ It is too early to tell if that worked. But I did want to point out something that I noticed. When I open windows explorer It would take several seconds before my drives would show up. This has been annoying me but I have been concentrating on other stuff. It looks like the msn trick has fixed this problem. I click on explorer and the drive info is there instantly. All that for a program I didn't want. Thanks for the tip. By the time I get xp running like it should the next version will be out and I'll have to do this all over again. 😉

Well got up this morning and moved the mouse to wake up the comp. and what happens. You got it message that windows has recovered from serious error. Although it did not BSOD and shut down it doesn't always do that anyhow.

Well I am open to anything. Ideas?
