I was only fired from one job and it was because I made a mistake that cost the company a lot of money. Honest mistake, nothing dumb, it just happened.

I've seen more people laid off than fired but the ones who got fired were let go due to performance issues. Some people just want to get paid to sit around.

It's extremely rare for someone to get fired at my place. You have to do something monumentally stupid to get fired.

At my last job, a software development company with a suite of products, they let several developers go because the project they were assigned to was more-or-less shutdown and they had no room/use for them. That's what we were told but I don't know. They seemed like good employees to me and I don't see why they couldn't just shuffle them to another project(s) because the company hired at least one or two developers not too long after doing that.

It's really not.

I was a machine cleaner at a large drug manufacturer. I cleaned a machine and missed some product and the person who inspected it also missed it, so they loaded the new product on it which just happened to be pseudo. Halfway through the first batch someone found the bit of product I missed.

SOP was to scrap the batch. It's normally not that big of a deal, it happens every so often. But since it was pseudo, the FDA had to be notified and a bunch of explaining had to be done. In the end a lot of people got in trouble because of the inspection not catching it and I took the brunt because I was the FNG.

The one person I've fired and other person I almost had to let go were due to attendance issues. A surprising amount of people feel it's up to them to decide whether or not it's important to come into work.

I've only been fired once and it was for taking a crap ton of xanax and crashing my bosses car into a concrete bench. Up until then (IMO even after), I was a model employee.



Other people I see usually get fired for not showing up, being stupid, or being a dick.

I've had managers ask my crew how they can stand to work with me because I'm always so difficult? They generally stare back blankly before bursting out laughing. Some folks just have selective memory. I always stress at my hiring that I will hold management to the same standards of performance and professionalism that they hold me.

I was "let go" about three years ago from a factory in a right to work state after getting three dollar an hour raises in 6 months.

I wasn't a loyal Tea Bagger was the reason more or less, I just came into work one day after I had been rebuilding a lot of his equipment and was told, "We do not require your services anymore" one morning.

I'm still tempted to turn him into OSHA out of spite, they are deburring Beryllium Copper in there in open air, wit no safety features.

I was working with Beryllium at Honeywell in aerospace for 9 years prior to that, there where tons of safeguards.

I mentioned it at one point and they bought some masks, but if OSHA did a real inspection of the place they'd shut it down.

The only person I know whose gotten fired around here was a PA who was grabbing some receptionists butt and got show the door. The receptionist was fat and ugly too, she should have appreciated the attention. Otherwise its pretty hard to get fired, the janitor who was stealing money out of peoples lockers couldnt get fired because the SEIU stood up for him.

Depends on the line of work. In the unionized tech support helpdesk world, you barely need a pulse to remain employed. You have to fail spectacularly at life, or actually want to get fired.

It depends on the type of job. If you look at all jobs then the nr 1 reason is probably age. Most of the low paid jobs tend to kick people out if they become too expensive. And that tends to be when they reach an age that they want job security and ask for a permanent position with a decent pay.
