why is 666 the number of the beast? why not 667 or like 32 or something? is it like the beast's favourite/lucky number or something?
does jesus have a number? if not then why does only lucifer have a number and not jesus?

btw no offence to any religious people...im an atheist and wrote this post as one...with all due respect to all other religions...

Well, if you believe Robert Heinlein (from "The Number of the Beast"), it's actually 6 to the 6th power, to the 6th power again; the number of possible alternate universes on a space with three possible time axes.

Some people just like to exploit the numbers.....kind of a rebel thing too, if you think about it. I'll admit, however, that when I come across those numbers, like when balancing a checkbook, I will normally round up, or down. (just in case )

Since this is from the Bible book of Revelation it is symbolic as a "man's number".

In the Bible the number 7 is symbolic of (heavenly) perfection. Man's number (6) falls 1 short of that (7). 666 is 600+60+6. In each successive step man's flaws are magnified by a factor of 10.

I don't know if God whispered the number in St. John's ear, or if St. John came up with the number himself. Don't know how He/they calculated the number, the only thing I know is that it's documented in the Revelations of St. John the divine, in the Bible. Not that I agree with alot of the stuff in that book, I feel like it was created more of a guide to living than anything else. Most of the "stories" seem more like fairy tales designed to scare you into submission.....
