A few months ago there was a good supply of the K98s, seems to have mostly dried up.

FAC has some listed (bottom left corner). They might be sold out as well by now though.

Federal Fireams License

FFL01 - This license is for commercial dealers who operate a storefront. All fireams transactions must go through a FFL01 dealer (except C&R).

FFL03 - Also called a Curio and Relics license, this allows individuals to recieve firearms that satisfy a set of criteria (over 50 years old, unique type, or on the ATF's list) directly without going through a FFL01 dealer.

Federal Firearms License. Licensed dealers essentially.

I have an old 8mm turkish mauser very similar to that. I paid like $30 for it, but it shoots way to the left and is very innaccurate, and it doesn't have a windage adustments on the sights. I'm debating on whether or not to buy an adjustable rear sight for it, but the dang sight is more than the rifle cost me. LOL.

YEP! I got one for 40 bucks. Thats the one I'm going to be converting to a .308
Doing Mauser conversions is actually pretty common. And those budget Mausers are perfect to do it to.

I paid about the same. Since my addiction has moved on to $50 like new Mosin Nagants I don't feel so bad.

I have an old remington 03a3 in near perfect condition that I inherited. Man, I love that rifle. Very accurate for an old bolt action.

I want to get a garand, but I need to save up some money to get one.

You just need to find a local FFL dealer who will send a copy of their license to FAC so the rifle can be shipped to them. You pay FAC, then they ship to your dealer who does the paperwork. Dealers usually charge a fee from $25 to $50 for the transfer depending on the dealer.

Actually I am a an Army vet. That's where I was thinking of getting my garand. I'm saving up the money. How bad are the rack grade rifles, is it worth getting the service grade for more money?

For $300 the RG Greeks are hard to beat even if they need some work in the future. I bought a SG USGI a few months ago and am very happy with it. As far as appearance goes it is luck of the draw. I have seen great looking RG rifles and crappy looking SG rifles. The main points that they are judged are mechanical condition.

Also, if you live anywhere near Ohio, CMP has a store with a selection to choose from.

Fine rifle, but the Swedish rifles are superior.
marstar.ca sells all varieties of guns as well, and this place has Swedish Mausers, considered the best Mausers, and some of the best guns, ever to be made.

That one looks pretty good...how the hell is it so cheap?

My CZ was 100 bucks. Thats why. There Soviet Bloc era guns and arent all that popular. Most people want the fancy .45's and whatnot. You could make the finest product in the world, but if no one wants it it wont have a high price.

Wow, that's f'n cheap. I'll have to look into it a little more tonight, but I have to get going to my meeting now. Later.

It seems like the 9x18 ammo isn't all-too-common (unless I'm just looking in the wrong places), which translates into more $ + having to order it. Turn out my dad has a Star .45 that might be small enough to carry as a backup. It's been a long time since I've fired it, so I can't remember how compact it is...I do remember that it only has a 6 round magazine, though.

I'm going to take a look at it sometime today so maybe I'll snap a few pics of it if he lets me take it home.

Try Cheaper than Dirt. Go to 'Ammo' on the top menu. Select "Search for Ammo by Caliber or Gauge" at the bottom. Should turn up some results.

Yeah, I just did some browsing and it looks like the 9x18 is cheaper...I didn't know .45 ACP was so expensive--$10 for a 20-round box of Federal JHP. Is the 9x18 pretty close to a 9mm then? I haven't seen a comparison between the calibers.

Unfortunately no. Its much closer to the 380 in ballistically.

9x18
9x19
380

i just snagged 3 at random, you could probably find both 380 and 9x19 loads that perform better/worse then these listed. Its also very well possible you could find/reload 9x18 loads that performed better as well. With no powerhouse handcannon, i sure as hell wouldnt want to get shot with it. Anyways, we both no shot placement is FAR more important then caliber anyways. Course, flip side is, I wouldnt want to carry a .22 no matter HOW could I could shoot. ;)

Kel-Tek P3-AT?
