I'd like that, a German Luger, a Colt .45 and Garand. That would be a FINE collection!

Add a K-43 and a Thompson or MP-40 to that list for me.

I've got one and a P-38. :)

Unfortunately, they are currently kept at my parent's house until I find a suitable storage/display for them. :(

The Dept. wants me to buy a backup handgun for when I'm on duty (unfortunately they're not provided). I don't really have a good budget for one...have any recommendations? It needs to be small enough to carry in a vest holster or something to that effect.

I'd do a Makarov. Its a 9x18mm, in reality very close to a .380 ballistically. I've heard alot of guys have traded in their other guns to use the Mak's as their primary CCW. Including trading in the 45's, the Glocks and Kimbers and others. Supposed to be VERY reliable if you take the time to clean it up, service it and use good ammo. Currently selling for 150 bucks.

For a cute little gun they also make a 5 shot derringer type revovler (VERY small) that shoots the .17 HMR. While a very small caliber, that bullet SCREAMS. More of a novelty / ladies gun though.

Sig P245. Made as a backup gun, small enough to be concealed easily, chambered in .45ACP, and fantastic Sig quality :)

Hah, I don't need a ladies gun. ;)

My instructor recommends a G23 because that way I can use my G22 mags in it if the 22 malfunctions, but a new G23 goes for, what, $450?

That's a nice-lookin' gun, but it's way too expensive for me. :(

The point of abackup gun is definately as a last resort, OH SHYTE kinda scenario. Hence my recommendation for a Mak. Excellent guns, good caliber and very reasonably priced. If guys will use them as primaries, no reason to question them in a secondary role.

I don't own any guns myself, but if at all possible I would like to acquire a genuine Tommy Gun. Sure, I have to register with the feds to own it, but it's a freakin' Tommy Gun! 'nuff said.

Is the Makarov the one you just got?

No. I have a CZ-52. Its a frickin tank of a gun, I wouldnt use it as a CCW period. Too damned big.

Yeah, I'll probably have a helluva time CCWing my G22. I have a Fobus paddle, but it prints a little with some of my t-shirts. It's fine with a coat on, but I don't want to have to wear a coat all the damn time. I'm looking into getting an IWB holster.

Mak
Mak

Keep in mind, Mak's (The old ones) are old. Make SURE you put in the time to clean it and test fire to make sure you find ammo the gun likes and feeds well. Yes, there good guns but no sense taking a chance.

Also, CZ does make current production guns which people just lobe. Prices are fantastic (The 9mm and .40's are 3-400) so thats always an option too. And, there very nice looking guns. I really want the CZ .45

CZ USA pistols

That one looks pretty good...how the hell is it so cheap?

My CZ was 100 bucks. Thats why. There Soviet Bloc era guns and arent all that popular. Most people want the fancy .45's and whatnot. You could make the finest product in the world, but if no one wants it it wont have a high price.

I'll second the Makarov for a budget carry gun - Mine. This one was unfired when I bought it last year for around $150. Barnaul has cheap HP 9x18 that people seem to like, and it feeds just fine through mine.

That's pretty nice, and that price can't be beat. Is it pretty accurate? How's the recoil?
