The next big player in Homeland Security...

Homeland Sec also wants every piece of mail delovered in the US to be coded for sender. Do you want HS to know every person to whome you write? I don't mind, but hey, it's getting interesting.

I don't mind so much that Homeland Security has information about me. Now, if it were the CIA, or NSA, or FBI, that might be different. But DHS, as an entity, couldn't even tell you it's current roll of employees, much less where your mail is going. If you guys only knew how screwed up things were over here...

Edit: Here's a link to your story from the Washington Post...

I don't mind either; privacy is so passe. I'll feel so much better, safer, when every home has its own HomSec I-C-U-Monitor® to keep watch on things. I saw George has an action figure out now, how about one for Tom Ridge?

LOL - My friend Winston Smith so enjoys his brand new BB model telescreen. He has a nice large view of it in his home and it has a nice large view of him as well. 🙂

That was different. Theirs was a bad government. Bad government spying citizens = bad. We have a good government. You can do the equation.

Let's say I rather over estimate the ability of big government to screw up my life then under estimate.

There may be a difference between big gov and DHS...Tom Ridge certainly is no successor to Big Brother, nor is DHS a Ministry of Love...

Do you have any inside, personal experience with DHS?

Is it me or are the politicians overblowing 9/11 way out of proportion to pass these surveilance provisions, justifying wars, out of control spending, corporate welfare, etc.
I mean it was a tragedy, but it shouldn't be an excuse to do stupid cr@p and discard common sense.

As I keep saying...DHS is a mess. The FBI alone may be capable of some of these things...but DHS cannot do anything. It is currently a broken organization.

I fixed your post so I could agree with you.🙂

Spending was out of control before 9/11, corporate welfare existed long before 9/11, and Afghanistan was justified due to 9/11.

Ahh, getting to be just like home. Or is this home? So hard to know these days. Back in Oceana there was a rumor, before we were enlightened by the state about rumors, that there was once no Minintry of Love. Imagine that! They had to make due with something called homeland security. Homeland. Makes one all warm and fuzzy. If I were allowed, I would wonder if that was the root of our beloved Ministry.

They can't even figure out how to integrate their payrolls and human resources jobs...

You don't have to have personal one on one experience to know that the FED departments always if given the chance will become bloated, corrupt and out of control. It's really sad to see that so called small goverment loving conservative GOP folks bend over and accept more bloated FED government because it comes from Bushy Jr. and the gang. Then again since big goverment loving Neo-Con's are now in control of the GOP party, I can see why this would happen.

Aves,

The problem as I see it is NOT what Homeland Security is now, it's what it has the ability to become, given things like the Patriot Act, and a penchant for lies and fear mongering by the executive branch. So while they may be a giant clusterf@$& now, what happens when they get their act together?

Filling these blimp things would prove once and for all whether or not those Iraqi Trailers really were Hydrogen Gas Generators.
Now we know that the preferred fill in Helium, because of the inert gas not being flamable and it's ability to provide munchkin voice overs,
but what the heck, isn't the risk worth finding out ? We invaded a whole country on the premise of them being part of the danger threat.
If we blow up a few things with the blimps while using Hydrogen, it's not like we haven't blown up some things before.

Hahah almost missed the sarcasm there. As Ben Franklin said "Those that would give up an essential liberty for a litle temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety"

I mean...the original purpose of DHS was to encourage information-sharing between different agencies, and this is happening, to an extent. TSA manages the no-fly list based on information obtained from FBI and USSS, and the Coast Guard recently aided in an EA for Plum Island in Massachusetts. However, Plum Island, Coast Guard, and TSA are still the same agencies they were before 9/11...and basically, so are FBI and USSS. However, the only ones you had to worry about before were FBI and USSS, and that is still true today.
