1) Do you think it will be within the financial sector like it was during the great depression, or the 2008 housing crash?

2) Maybe it will be another great war? Maybe a world war with China and Russia? Or a localized internal war within our bourders?

3) Maybe the crime rate goes thru the roof, and it becomes unsafe to travel within America?

4) Or, will it be the environment? The Eastern seaboard swallowed up by the Atlantic ocean, or it gets so HOT that summer travel outside becomes unsafe?

5) Could it be the upcoming presidentail race? Trump is successful and becomes the new president, and all hell breaks lose.

A combination of 1-5, or just maybe nothing happens during OUR life time? What are your thoughts?

Not too worried about the next big american crisis as there are already too many overlapping crisis already ongoing.

We have terrorists all over the country murdering people simply for being different.

We have half of the country about to burn up in a fire or drown in a flood largely thanks to climate change, but also partly thanks to destruction of wetlands
and bad water management strategy.

We have medical crisis where cost to get health care bankrupts families and puts them on the street.

We have a homelessness crisis where even full time workers can't afford a comfortable place to live in most of the country.

We have an education crisis where people are not getting adequate public education to earn a comfortable living.

Doritos bags are getting smaller. Inevitability, the bag will no longer be able to contain a whole chip and it will be nothing but piece doritos.
I thought they used same size big bags, just keep putting less and less chips in them and replacing half of the chips with "dust".
In any case, shrinkflation is a big part of affordability problem/crisis. Its doubly bad IMO due to how deceptive the practice is. I frown upon any/all deceptive practices done in the name of making more profits.

4) The environment keeps getting worse, global warming the root cause. That's the most likely. We're nearing catastrophic already and it appears to be accelerating faster than anticipated. The question is, can environmental catastrophe be avoided?

Of course, environmental catastrophe spills out and causes several other kinds but it's the decaying environment that's the root cause.

Extreme August Arrives With a Warning: Expect More

A mix of devastating wildfires, tropical storms, mudslides and heat waves foreshadows a future of intensified extremes as the world warms.

“Twenty years from now, a summer like this is going to feel like a mild summer,” said Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at the University of California Los Angeles, in an online briefing Monday afternoon. “In terms of incredibly frenetic pace of global extremes we are seeing this summer, in terms of temperatures and precipitation, that’s only going to get worse as the climate continues to warm.”

It's almost like... we should consider thinking about maybe starting to do something in a decade or so. Maybe form a committee to appoint a tzar to spearhead the effort.

Don't forget the drug crisis.

Or the robbery crisis, from Kias to drugstores.

Or the gun violence crisis.

Should this be in P&N?

The next great American crisis will be the 2024 election.

I could also see the evolution of an especially virulent and deadly strain of covid-19 causing a major crisis.

Beyond that, climate change.

Next big? As in, big relative to existing crisis? Definitely environmental. It's the crisis to end all crisis and will be the defining feature of all events for the next 100 years, or until humans stop recording it. Whatever crisis comes after it will pale in comparison and will be easily overcome, relatively speaking.

Yeah, well, tsar in the figurative manner. Something to politically solidly signify that we acknowledge that we realize we are facing an existential crisis. What form that takes, I don't know but we need to do something. I don't think we should regress and go authoritarian, no. How do we do this without sacrificing the best thing about the USA, being its democratic underpinnings? I'm not super strong in civics and history. Do we have what it takes to do this with the institutions we have?

What's your favorite flavour?
There's a highly touted chip at Trader Joe's, the Trader Joe's Elote organic corn chip, a gourmand touted it online recently as just the best chip ever. It's 9.75oz bag for $2.49. I bought a bag of the non-Elote version by mistake last week and went back and got the right one and have compared them and prefer the non-Elote version, the other, to me, is too spicy. I like them both. But I won't be buying either because even though lower in sodium than most chips, they are too salty for me, at about 120mg/ounce of chips. I'll stick with Late July organic multi grain chips I get at Costco. 1oz has 65mg sodium, which is plenty for me. Sorry for getting off topic. Jeez.
