I skimmed through it.

I'm not sure I really consider biology to be that interesting science-wise. Dissecting all the tiny complexities of biology seems meaningless to me. If we completely understand biology, that still won't mean we'll be able to cure every disease, cure every genetic malfuntion, etc etc. I doubt it will ever happen.

Evolution has resulted in some very efficient mechanisms for us to study. By understanding biological systems, many times we can come up with analogs to these systems that can outperform current solutions. One example is with solar cells. There currently is research into designing nanotech (ugh) solar cells that operate in a way similar to photosynthesis.
