i remember our first PC a intel 286 with 4 megs of ram and a 200 meg HD cost like 4K

we upgraded to a 386 400 meg HD and 8 megs of ram and that cost like 1500$

AMD and like $1000

but you also have to factor in that they hit 1GHz well ahead of when they should have, given the rates of mhz increases during the p2/katmai era

hell, even the mhz increases since have slowed way down. the coppermine vs. athlon era was nice
