The newest addition to my thinkpad family has arrived

My X31 arrived today and I love it, its tiny compared to the T series. Not seen in the pic are a T21 and a T30 I have at work. Battery life is great and I love the built in firewire. Don't have the 802.11a/b/g mini-pci card but its coming soon, so i'm using my Dell TruMobile1150 wifi card.

For ppl thinking about getting a thinkpad you can't go wrong, I've tried the rest and thinkpads are the best (ok maybe not value wise)

Nice! Could you comment on build quality, keyboard, etc? Did you get the media slice?

Does it come with an optical drive or do you need the base thing for that?

Build quality is excellent, its sturdier than the T series. I think the T series now uses magnesium the X is still titanium. The feel of the keyboard is exaclty what you excpect from an IBM: wonderful. The keys are a bit smaller but I have no problem at all except for some of the keys on the sides, for example the backspace button is about half the size of the one on the T series keyboard.

Didn't get the media slice don't need it, the X31 has built in firewire and I have a firewire HD and a DVD+-R/RW in an external firewire/usb2 enclosure.

You need the base to use Ultrabay 2000 drives, but since i never really need optical drives I didn't get the media slice. It makes the X31 weigh as much as the T40 and it becomes thicker.
