"The New School Prayer"

[/b]Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule.

For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.

And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.

The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.

In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.

They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the "unwed daddy,'' our Senior King.

It's "inappropriate'' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments'' do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.

But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.

So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot, my soul please take!

Amen.[/b]

Nothing offensive here. Some parents in Athens, GA, however find this offensive. Must have nothing better to do with their lives.

sigh. if you cant understand the necessity of separation of church and state, i guess you never will. take my word for it, though- were a lot better off with that bill of rights thing you demean up there.

Yeah, I remember my Political Science teacher telling me today that the constitution said that people with dyed hair, peircings, and tattoos were to be seperate from state. I'm so glad you posted this cute song!

This sounds like something Toby Keith would be proud to write.

Considering the historical consequences of having a state sponsored religion, I would think you would want and hardly support a separation between religion and government.

It would go very bad for you if the government decided that your religion was unacceptable.

Blessed are the persecuted. Shouldn't we be glad for this test of faith?

Doesn't the Bible say not only my first sentence, but that we WILL be persecuted for our faith?
Is this not an affirmation of your faith?

If everything was all happy for Christians-- if we lived without persecution, wouldn't this be worrying, given that the Bible says believers WILL be persecuted?

I'm not a very good Christian, but I am genuinely curious about why people complain about this. Please elaborate.

What a load of sh!t. Students are allowed to pray individually or to form prayer groups. Even teachers can organize after-school prayer or Bible study groups. Nobody is being oppressed, and you're a damned fool if you think that preventing teachers from proselytizing during class time is bad.

Sure man, but I don't get your point.

Where did homosexuality come in to this discussion? Is this some immature attempt at namecalling, 'LOL OMG STRATMAN IS GAY'? And a bad gay at that?

The Bible doesn't say homosexuals will be persecuted at all, unless of course, we are talking about Christian homosexuals, in which case them being homosexual would be beside the point.

Are you being a partisan right-winger in being homophobic and calling me gay, or are you being a partisan leftist and bashing everything Christian and assuming all Christians dislike gays?

Dude, my sister in law is gay, and a Christian. I'm from Canada. Things aren't black and white up here like they are down there.

Nice try though.

Relax Bro.. I should have done a better job at representing my point.. I apologize -- my reply had nothing to do with you personally....

I hate Right Wingers... I wish them triple the harm they inflict upon others

Because of these recent American elections I am also becoming more and more upset with American Christianity...

Christians play the victim role but they fail to see how they victimize others :(

Eh, thanks for the apology, it's all good :)

I can see what you mean though with the victimization thing too. Hearing stories about people, alledged Christians marching around and chanting "God hates gays", and hearing stories of pro-lifers killing doctors makes me incredibly sad and angry too. It's so very screwed up :(... and then these same people turning around and demanding better treatment is rediculously hypocritical.

What I was trying to say in my original post to the writer of the 'New school prayer' or to whoever forwards it to all their friends is stop whining. In your religion you're supposed to be persecuted, and you hardly are.

A final note to everyone: Just because a minority, or half, or even almost all of a group is stupid, or has a characteristic you don't like, don't generalize and say that the entire group is bad.

So don't say all liberals believe such-and-such stupid things, or that all right-wingers do such-and-such retarted things. Especially don't hate entire groups of people. We are more than our beliefs. We are individuals.

Though obviously take any advice i give with a grain of salt... I'm a pretty fvcked up person myself.

If I'm allowed to draw Jesus with a penis as his nose I wouldn't mind saying a prayer.

Isn't it only against the rule if the prayer is led by the teacher? I was under the impression students can pray to themselves anytime they want, but the school cannot force them to.

Again well said. Except that an entire "Group" as you put it is running the Country.

That's why I took a bit of percentage off the 51% to 50.9%, recognizing there are some misguided "individuals" that may not be Brainwashees of the Religious Radical Right but voted for the Bush Regime anyway.

Welcome to the club but most would argue you have a loooong way to go to be more fvcked up than me.

Personally I think when schools try to brainwash students into being liberals it is just as bad as teaching religion.

You can not avoid the subject of religion like it does not exist. Religious beleifs need to be part of any discussion of History. Religion can be an excuse or an ispiration for both good and evil deeds. Much of the Northwest from Nevada to north of Utah was developed by over 5,000 immigrants who belonged to the Mormon Church. Mormon leaders were instrumental in the building of the rail road to salt lake city. The use of the railroad was an important element which helped to finish the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City. Brigham Young organized the development of many cities in the northwest. He harnessed the converts coming to Salt Lake City and sent them to romte locations to establish new settlements. He also sent people to Europe to learn new trades to develop new industry in the North West. The Mormons were so far west so fast that they had hardly no way to transport goods in an economical fashion. Brigham Young even had a farm on which he planted mulberry trees for the production of silk so women could have stockings.
