The "new" s3

They've been working on their Chrome architecture but basically they've been relegated to the extreme low-end/entry-level/budget market. They can't hang with the 2 big boys now.
 
IMHO they never really could hang with the big boys. It would take a company that made something revolutionary to get them any respect in this 2 company dominated market
 
Well, before 3D accelerators came about, they were once on top. Also, their Savage3D/Savage4 architecture were arguably in the race, but ever since the Savage2000 they never completed the race 🙂
 
imho if they have brains they would go for the budget market, that's where the most money is to be had. with the least effort, if they focus on being in the budget segment and not on the top end they can get by with a lot less R&D thus lower prices thus bigger market segment thus more profit.
 
I'm telling you folks, with their new Chrome products, S3 will not just compete with the big boys, they'll wipe the floor with them. Viva la S3!😀
 
I paid $120 for an S3 ViRGE card 10 years ago. That was my biggest PC upgrade up to that point. Descent II looked great! I previously had some Trident 1MB video card.
