This sounds amazing, and I only have my laptop speakers at the moment,. I can't wait to fire this up on my stereo.

yup.. they redid the drums.. no more electronic snare..

the bass track is turned up dramatically... you can hear the bass harmonics in the beginning which werent in the original (or at least inaudible) and they really did some work on teh vocals.. either they are new, or an alternate track/take that was in the original master tracks that didn't make it into the original mix.. the vocals sound different and more ballsy. . and i really think when he sings the highest notes, they either turn those instances down just a pit and maybe corrected the pitch, because even though its still high and operatic, its sounds... cool and fucking impossible to actually sing.

not to mention, the levels are different on the individual tracks, so the overal sound is different

It's cool but I prefer the tone from Petrucci's Mark IIC+ as opposed to the Mark IV.. it's a tad too dark for my tastes on this tune.

At least you can hear the bassline now :D

He didn't re-record the guitar parts.. Unless you are just saying you like his newer sound. Which I agree. He's had 15 years to fine tune it...

And yea, Myung is a badass. It's nice that they turned that up... it gives it balls

Interesting, must be the shitty quicktime cause it sounds way darker. And his older tone is the Mark IIC+.. his newer tone is great too (Mark IV) but I prefer the tone on the older records. Has a much brighter / in your face tone. They're both awesome though..

Yeah Myung is a badass!

I was at that Chicago show where they covered all of Master of Puppets.. it's the recorded version video/audio that floats around the web.. it was awesome.

well, its just a remaster/remix, so all we are hearing is a bit more clarity, more meat in teh bass registers, and a better eq'ing job.. the same guy that did this remaster also did the recent remasters for Led Zeppelin.

Dream Theater are overrated, anyone that listens to good metal would notice that... I can name another 5 progressive metal bands that do a better "musical" job... Although DT are great if you like technical masturbation

name them?

musicality is subjective. and yea, there are many many bands that are as melodic as DT. But chances are DT could play their music but not the other way around.

Their technicality is pretty much unmatched and it has influenced many many musicians to be better musicians.

I'd like to see which bands these are too.
$10 says one of them is Tool.

Tool + DT aren't even comparable. As far as other bands who could be 'better' than DT, the first one that comes to mind is BTBAM. Also Zao based on straight musicianship.

I dunno... this stream is thoroughly unimpressive. I'd even go so far as to say the musicianship is average at best in most of the songs. I have to agree with ShadowOfMyself, I've never really listened to much DT, but they are overrated. As a musician, I am wondering if the 'unmatched technicality' is just not in any of these songs. I mean even Mudvayne is more musically technical than these songs, and they have a very weak guitarist.

I rate this music as meh at best. :thumbsideways;

I like tool, and I'd listen to them all day. If someone prefers them over DT, especially the more technical, newer Tool, I wouldn't blame them.

Alot of people might argue that Between teh Buried and Me can get as technical as DT, which is almost becoming a reality if you have heard COLORS.

Even still, Dream Theater is almost a style of music now, than just a band....

and if you ask them to stand up and own all other bands, they'll just play the dance of eternity and go home.

look up the instrumedly. 99% of musicians would shoot themselves in the face before committing to learning that craziness.

and yea, BTBAM are catching up. But they are also DT babies and wouldn't be what they are if it wasnt for DT. That's why they are touring with DT right now. 2 peas in a pod....

Instrumedly eh? I'll have to check it out. I remember one of the DT guys, no idea which, had one of those cloth synth boards and he was messing around on it. That was excellent.

i meant that a derogatory statement about Tool. The people on this forum think they are the greatest band ever.
