<< The lid has been lifted on one of the most exciting new cars destined for the luxurious sports cabriolet market, Auto Express can exclusively reveal. Mercedes is gearing up to launch an all-new version of its phenomenally successful SLK.
Not only will the forthcoming rear-wheel-drive car look radically different, but it will also feature a new and improved version of the metal folding roof that has become an industry standard since the drop-top was launched in 1996. The new roof will slide backwards and then down, rather than hinging, saving on both storage space and folding time.
While drawing its styling inspiration from the awesome SLC Concept of 1999 and the McLaren Mercedes F1 race cars, underneath the curving bodywork the new SLK will borrow heavily from the current C-Class. That means not only will the roadster be a lot more spacious and practical than the model it is set to replace, but it promises to be a far better driver's car, too. >>
