The new Incubus album kind of, uh, sucks.

I got it for $10 yesterday. I'm on my 4th listen through the CD and just nothing is hitting me as very good, other tham megalomaniac. I predict few singles from this CD. It's MUCH softer than their more recent work. It somehow got 4/5 on Amazon, although half of the last 20 reviews I read said it was soft and gave it bad scores.

And not just to say it's soft, which I can appreciate, but it's just not really great. Somebody mentioned that they put it together in 6 weeks.

The CD comes with a DVD with some extra material, which is a flag to me that a CD probably sucks.

Anyway, I'll keep listening, but this is my first impression of it.

thats not what I wanted to hear. Im a big fan and was hoping for another album to throw into the mix where I wouldnt have to skip songs off of.

I have put all their albums on a cd-rw to play on my mp3 car deck. Hit random and let it go. Only a couple songs I skip when they come on. For the most part I can listen to em non stop.

The first single from it blows HUGE chunks - that alone is enough for me to avoid the album.

I've never bought any of their stuff before, but I've "sampled" some of their top songs, and they're absolutely stellar (har har). I was hoping for more of the same in this. It's fine if a group "matures", but not if it gets worse. Like I said earlier, perhaps my impressions here are wrong in regards to the quality, but I'd not rush out to buy this one without reading some more reviews or seeing if they have another single (doubtful).

I've listened to it only a few times through.

Incubus is one of my favorite bands. I like their two most recent albums best - Morning View and Make Yourself. I like less their early albums like Fungus and SCIENCE - too hard for me.

I think this CD is one of their best. The problem is that it won't be a big hit like their previous two because there aren't any singles on it. Megalomaniac is actually one of my least favorite on the album.

For me, this album has all of the goodness of MV and MY, but is a little harder. The lyrics are the most impressive on this album, and vocally Boyd sounds incredible. I really like it.

Like you, some people on Amazon like it a lot too. It seemed to get either 4 stars of 1 star on the reviews. I generally detest when a band changes their sound so much between albums. It took me years (more than half a decade) to start appreciating U2's zooropa.

Make Sure to "sample" these:
Are you in?
11am
Drive
Redefine
Summer Romance
Favorite things
Nowhere fast

I think S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is a great album. Morning View is my 2nd fav. Drive is probably the 1 song that no matter how many times I hear it I cant get sick of it and find myself singing along.

I'm the opposite, I have been listening to Incubus since Fungus Amongus, and liked SCIENCE as well... they were different, funky, good simple grooves, kinda Faith No More-ish. Make Yourself I thought was alright, more mellow but with its hooks. Didn't like Morning View really, and doubt I'll like the new one.

I'm not buying it because of Megalomaniac. I can't stand monotone melodies. I don't think he sings but one note through the whole chorus. It seems right after a band's successful breakthrough, they don't try as hard for the following CDs.

Same here.

Once Brandon lost the dreads he became a softy and so did his music. :(

I've seen Incubus live several times and by far the best show was in 1998. Since then I've seen them 3 or 4 times and the same energy was never there. They're still a good band but not my kind of music anymore.

I have heard a few of the songs, but basically Megalomaniac is the only one I like.

Bring back the harder sounds of SCIENCE and Make Yourself. I really enjoyed Morning View's variety, but going to all mellow songs doesn't do it for me.

It is gawd awful.....it just seems like a distinct change (not evolution, but change) from Morning View, which was an evolution from the previous CD

At least it was only $10, though.

Admittedly, I've never listened to Incubus.

I concur. I was expecting something that would be breath-taking from them but only received a bad taste in my mouth.
