Well, HP seem to have soft-launched their new laptops, they can be seen in press releases from Geneva and they are already on the website - but I cant find very much about them on any news or review sites so there seems to have been no "pre-releases" of them to the press.
The nc8000 has the specs I'm looking for these days (I'm looking for a "business-gamer"
, a P-M processor, Radeon 9600 Pro and DVD burner but It's lacking the 7200rpm disk and a wide screen display. The new nw8000 has the 7200 disk but it uses the Fire GL T2 which is not something I'd like to spend money on and seems like a bit of an overkill. Still ... no wide screen.
I have been looking at the Inspiron 8600 from Dell that has the wide screen and the 7200 disk but I have an Inspiron 8000 and that has had quite some problems. The reviews on the keyboard and touchpad/stick/button seem to indicate it has the same poor characteristics of the 8000 (Inherent Dell problem? I see it mentioned on Latitudes as well). It also uses the FX Go 5600 - and it seems to ... uhm ... suck ... at DX 9.
However there is neat little thin and wide from HP, the nx7000. It's pretty impressive when you handle it regarding weight and size and the scroll on the touchpad and at a button above the touchpad to shut it off!! (VERY handy when using an external mouse - your palm cant move the mouse all over the place - very annoying to shut it on and off in mouse settings). But on the performance side it only has a Radeon 9200 w/64M and a 4200rpm hard drive!
So I'm a bit confused on which way to go - the HP nc8000 that has everything except the disk rotation and the wide screen, the Inspiron 8600 which has it all, but uses the Go 5600 with flimsy case/pad/stick/button/keyboard OR the neat HP nx7000 that lacks most of the punch but has the screen, the weight and the useable design?
I'm beginning to think the nc8000 or the nx7000 ... but I'd like to see the performance difference between them two - what do you recommend to look for? Also I'm limited to Dell and HP, these are our primary vendors ... so no Liebermans please *cries*
