Logiciels compris : Symantec Norton Internet Security 2007 (mise à jour en direct gratuite de 60 jours) ; Microsoft Works ; Microsoft Office 2007 Édition Élève-enseignant (essai de 60 jours) ; HP PhotoSmart Premier; HP Quick Play; Muvee AutoProducer DVD Édition avec gravage ; Sonic Digital Media Plus ; et plus !
Dimensions : 15,16 long. x 11,65 larg. x 1,57 haut. po

There is also a machine from Toshiba with similar components. Should I go with HP or Toshiba or something else.

Thanks for your help

first thing to do posting first time on a primarily english forum: post specs in english 😉

welcome to anandtech btw 😛

alright the way i see it, this is a huge waste of money. the only reason you get a 17" laptop is to get a powerhouse. the laptop you posted is weaker than my 14" HP.

what's your budget? what are the most intensive tasks you'll be doing? photo-editing only?
will you be moving the laptop around? how much battery life would you prefer?

alright i'll post back later

Ok. As I said, I already have a tower that I can use when I need power for 3D graphics. For the rest, I?m doing photography so I want a laptop where I can do photo retouching whatever the place where I want to do it. Also, if I go to a motorcycle race for a shooting, I can show the pictures to the racers that I shoot instead of looking into my 2?? LCD screen on my Rebel XT. This model of laptop is a kind of media center. So I can bring it when we go in campground area for vacation for watching movies for the kids at night, listen music, etc. I also have an internet project with other guys. So if I need to show something to sponcers I can do it with a laptop. So yes maybe I will have to move it around for sure.

About the battery life, this machine is suppose to have a 3 Hrs autonomy but the guy told me that it?s around 2 Hrs and not 3Hrs. This machine was $1300.00CA and it?s now at $1100CA

Well that it?

Thanks😎

lol dont worry about the french thing. i dont know french but it was pretty easy for me to figure out the specs you posted 😛

as for email/internet.. there shouldnt be a problem with that. as for photo editing, such as photoshop(if thats what you might be using)... well... i think the more ram you have the better. thats my non-professional opinion, which may or may not be accurate 😀

oh, and on a similar note: i believe the geforce 6150 doesnt have any dedicated ram, so it would take from your system ram. i think the max is 256mb. so you might want to take that into consideration

other things to consider: larger screen = less battery life. bumping down to a smaller screen would help some(and would also be more portable), or maybe if you wanted the 17 inch screen, you would want to choose an option for a larger battery.

...about the brand should I choose HP or Toshiba? There is a similar model from Toshiba for 100$ more.

same here, i said it more as a joke 😛

HP is a good brand and i would prefer it over a toshiba. from my experience, toshibas in this price range are not as high a quality as the HPs. plus, i have a HP dv2000t (14") so i can tell you first hand that HPs are built solid.

for your uses, i think the dv2000t would be better. the only advantage i see coming from a dv9xxxt (17") over the dv2000t (14") is if you needed a laptop that good game. otherwise, the dv2000t is better in all respects; it is cheaper, lighter, takes up less space, and is better suited to your needs.

the HP dv2000t should be at least $200 cheaper than a similarly configured dv9000t. there are other brands that are "better" in some areas but you stated you need a media center laptop and this is one of the best for that
