The new banner ads are cool!

Hey Anand,

I like the new (EDIT) banner (/Edit) ads.....default no volume!

Hover and it expands. Click, new page. Very well done I say.

Hope the site is doing well with these well done ads.

I love when you make money, and it doesn't bother me 🙂.

I'm older school and remember a time when I wasn't subjected to incessant advertising on the 'net. 😛

respect?

no company (the ad agency) as ever made any appreciable money with browser ads.

they pay the user, sure, but there is no true gain for those who create and sell internet-based ads (of the banner variety)

it's comical when you think about it.

That must be why Google is so broke 😕

funny, right?

Google still gets paid.

...sorry, I don't have a link, but some analyst was talking about this on NPR the other day. He mentioned that internet ad sails net agencies an ave of some 1-2% of their annual revenue.

funny.

btw...you do know that Google is not an ad agency, right? ...meaning, they do not make ads.

well, fuck. now I have to find it b/c it really does sound silly.

None of you troglodytes listens to NPR?

Something about Madison Ave having no real idea about where they spend their money, meanwhile Google and Microsoft profit heavily from the agencies' revenue.

No I agree with you, it's comical. That's why I was laughing.

That and NPR are a bunch of self important douchebags. But mostly that it's comical. 😉

Is there an addon to block the forced referral anand uses to make money? You know what I'm talking about, every time you click on a amazon.com link (and a number of other sites), you have to go through some dynamite portal. Make it stop!

Add the command within this text file as a new button in Firefox. Click it before clicking a referred link.

That adserver is blocked in my hosts file, meaning they likely served up enough really irritating ads to be worthy of a hosts-file block.
dynamic.anandtech, dynamic1.anandtech, and dynamic2.anandtech are also in there; they would constantly cause pages to hang on loading, and sometimes cause complete timeouts.

As far as I'm concerned, ads should be unobtrusive, should not be distracting, and should not cause pages to stop loading, or otherwise slow down pageloading.
And as more and more ISPs go to tiered service plans, ads should also use less bandwidth, as I really don't feel like paying money to look at advertisements. It was bad enough with cable TV, where around 25-30% of the programming slots were occupied by commercials.

who ever sees ads fails!

Whoever uses that bloated POS Firefox fails.

Keep using your Google Chrome then and support the movement to feed Google all your info.

k

Someone has to.
Might as well be you.

And yeah, ads? 😛
