Seriously. Some piece of logic tries to generate ads relevant to the thread.
Like go to this thread about the future Pontiac GTO, and the ads are all Car/GTO/Holden/Pontiac related.

The bottom of my current screen in FI has ads for ColdFusion, and other web tools.

Hahaha
I love it.

And the ads aren't annoying and obtrusive!

Did I ever mention how much I love chips ahoy cookies when I drink Pepsi and do Java programming while riding a Schwinn bicycle?

I agree. Thanks for the change. So it looks like you guys part of the new Google AdWords 'Content Targeted Advertising' network? I hope so.

Can any of the mods explain how the functionality will play out in an area like forum threads? I noticed a new member named GolfGTI was introducing himself and most of the ads seemed to be Volkswagen ads. Is it based off thread titles? Or the body copy of the whole thread? Or just the originator?

It's definitely not the title, since I got a bunch of car ads.
I wonder if I talk about The Philadelphia Eagles, Tra Thomas, Veteran's Stadium, Philadelphia Cheesesteaks and Throwing Batteries at Johnson Outboard Motors it will do anything different....

I tried something similar on the thread in Off Topic and it didn't change anything. It LOOKS like it's based on the original post. And it might actually account for the user's ID name since that GolfGTI guy had VW ads in his. Very cool system.

I agree. It must set once based on the original post, and editing the original post doesn't seem to have impact.
Very interesting. I wonder if it references a single URL as soon as it is generated, and it periodically re-evaluates each URL?

It probably uses Google's same spidering techonlogy they use in their regular search engine ranking algorithms to determine which keywords are most important in the original post. For example, if the words 'home theater' are used in the thread title and has a high frequency relative to the body copy (and is higher up in the body copy) it probably determines that 'home theater' is the core term to be concerned with on this thread. It then probably goes and pulls the top Google AdWords listings from the advertisers currently advertising for 'home theater.' The actual ads might change from page view to page view, but the core term being advertised for will probably remain the same.

Am I right mods? Do I get a cookie? ;)
