Yeah, the headlights are funky, but they are VERY distinctive in the now "me too" SUV market. The functional gills behind the front wheel wells look cool too.

Haha, I don't even think that you can compare a $40k Lexus to this $80k Range Rover :p

Looks pretty good, better than the current model. Rover vehicles just don't do it for me, though, for whatever reason.

That point is moot.

Gas is cheap (paid 87 cents a gallon this morning to fill up the Highlander), and if you can afford a $80,000 Range Rover, gas mileage is the LAST thing on your mind.

How long do you think that'll stay that way?!?!?

Exactly! If you can afford luxory like that, then you can afford to maintain it too!

I don't really care. The Highlander averaged 21.8 MPG (with a high of 22.5 MPG, and this was with three people in the car and a cargo area loaded with presents, and boxes, coolers, suitcases, etc.) during our 750 mile round trip from Burlington, NC to Baltimore, MD and back. And my Camry gets around 29 - 30 MPG. So gas prices have never been a show stopper for me.

Sure you can. Price doesn't testify quality when your already paying $40k+. Especially if its $80k. Thats rediculous...
Thats $140k-$150k CDN. I'd buy 2-3 autos (just as nice) for that price.
Its a quality vehicle, but its not that special.

Thats insane. Gas is always a serious factor.
Its because of SUV's people have to pay that wonderful gas tax.

Sure, gas is semi cheap now, but what about a month ago when it was absurdly high? What about 2 months from now? With all the sh|t going down in the middle east, crude oil won't be flowin' if conflict gets very serious.

Are you sure?

What are you talking about? Ever since the US invaded Afghanistan, gas prices have been on the cheap side. Seems to me like conflict = lower gas prices.

I think it looks cool.

Isn't this basicly the only SUV that was designed to actually go off the road ;)

Doesn't really do anything for me... of course I'm not a big SUV fan.

Gas is ALWAYS a consideration. Its 91 cents a gallon for 87 octane here. I hope you're not putting 87 octane in a Highlander. And 22mpg on the highway is pathetic.

Um, I don't think anyone would take that thing off road. It's just a "look at me" SUV. It's like a Porsche for people who want SUVs. Like the Cheyenne or whatever Porsche is coming out with. Like the ML, MDX, G500, X-5...

The Highlander can run on either 87 or 91 octane and the dealer told us to use 87 unless we really felt the need to use the higher grade stuff. And after driving with 87, we see no need to go any higher. 22 MPG is NOT pathetic for an SUV it's size (my dad was averaging 24 MPG with just him in the vehicle on his way from Raleigh back to Burlington last week). And pitiful compared to what? Other SUV's or other cars. Compare apples to apples. Compared to a car, it's decent. Compared to an Explorer, it's GREAT. Our '97 Explorer with a weaker 205HP V6 struggled to get 16 MPG on the highway. Maybe gas price is a big consideration for you, but I've got to drive no matter what so I don't bitch about it.

So I don't see your point...

Land Rovers have ALWAYS been off-road vehicles. When you think off-road and a storied history, Jeep and Land Rover should be at the top of the list.

I'll give it a "not completely ugly", but no more. I'm not a big fan of the dashboard, either.

Higher octanes than an engine is designed to run on can cause pinging and can actually damage the engine. Cars these days are designed for 87 octane, you should keep that in mind.

Well, I'm not going to turn this into a debate on SUVs. You already know my standpoint on that. After doing some homework, you're right on the gas milage. 22 is good for a beast of that size.

I'd take the Cayenne off road, hell, I'd take a 959 off road! Did you see the modded version they used in rally races... gawd!! :)
