It's the industry's dirty little secret, but online porn has turned out to be a blessing for many of the biggest brands on the Internet.

The hard-core truth is that portals rake in tidy sums selling search terms. They go through middlemen, who sell advertising space to the porn operators keen on making sure their banners pop up when users type in particular search terms. You can fire your own imagination to guess the word combinations, starting with "adult Web sites" and ending with "zoo animals with naughty habits."

I wouldn't place much stock in the allegations of a columnist at ZDnet. He offered ZERO evidence and not a single on the record quote.
