I watch a decent amount of Netflix and they have been pimping their new show Lillyhammer. It's about an ex-mafia guy who goes into witness protection in Norway. It's weird, but it's actually pretty decent. I used to think Norway would be a nice place to live, but if this show is right, they have some incredibly anal laws.

Anyway, if you have Netflix, check out the pilot. I couldn't find any threads about this, so sorry if it's a repost.

I've heard it's one of those so bad it's good things. Like the Room. I haven't been compelled to watch it though. Everyone tells me it sucks big time.

Well, I'm not a TV connoisseur, but I like it. It reminds me of Due South in a way. Apparently the main guy was on the Sopranos.

Steven Van Zandt, he played Silvio in the Sopranos.

I, too, liked Lillyhammer, and hope they make more. It's definitely a unique "gangster" show, though...very light-hearted.

Steven Van Zandt is a good actor and harkens back to the days he was on the Sopranos.

I have yet to watch Lillyhammer, but when I need a pseudo-foreign fix, I'll tune in.

Ah, the memories....Sopranos started so good...and spiraled so stupidly, with long breaks in between shit seasons b/c the the Creator of the show thought he was Shakespeare and needed time to create greatness--which he didn't. Paralysis by writer's analysis.

I enjoyed it too. Wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but I liked all of the characters and the story was interesting. I also hope they make more.

Understand that all of these complaints depend on the laws described in the show actually being real. If not, clearly there's no complaint to be made.

Two months of studying for a driver's license struck me as pretty overboard, but I can kind of understand it given their harsh driving conditions. One of the characters remarks that shooting a wolf is worse than shooting a person in Norway. That's completely absurd to me. The six months of cultural training also struck me as odd. If we tried to do that in the US we'd be called xenophobic. I don't know that this was a requirement, but if so that seems overboard.

The main character faced a nightmare of bureaucracy in opening his bar. His girlfriend was assigned a hospital in which to give birth, and only the midwife could sign off on transfers. The son got picked on at school and the teacher didn't want to punish the kids, but rather open a dialogue. Same for the night watch group when confronted with vandals. The jails were plush and like summer camp.

I don't know. A lot of things in that culture just strike me as strange. I suppose that's the nature of culture though.

Just finished it yesterday. I liked it. Anyone else inexplicably attracted to his girlfriend? She isn't all that good looking, and has some weird teeth. Probably how she dresses or something.

Srsly?

I watched 5 minutes of it and thought it was pathetic. The opening gun fight is done so poorly that it's almost funny. Then the meeting with the FBI was just terribad.

lol, the whole 8 episodes are like that. It gets even worse. I think the viewer isn't meant to take everything seriously.
