There are very, very few times that it is appropriate to argue with a customer. This was not one of them.

we had that once. this guy brought back underwear he'd been wearing for about 6 years, complaining that the waistband was ripping or something. some people are just dumb :-/

Even if my underwear snapped the next day, I wouldn't return it out of embrassment.

I agree with you but I am curious. When do you think it is appropriate to argue with a customer?

It's because they really can do crap like that. :( Our managers are Best Buy were wusses too and caved in to any little demand a middle-aged man or woman made. What's so hard about saying, "No and that's final"?

I can't think of one off-hand, but I'm sure there has to be a couple of instances where it has to be done.

I've got one... I used to work in a retail store that sold furniture (among other things). This guy bought a recliner, chose not to have it delivered, and also chose to load and secure it in his truck by himself. On the way home (on the highway, mind you) it flies out the back of his truck. He came back with what was left and demanded an exchange.

That is why I hate working retail :p

I think that unless your company has clear return guidelines............ people will try to pull stuff :p

I used to work for EB and they had the most open return policy.......... which they tightened up and the customers complained but they got used to it.

I think if it's reasonable (this clearly was not) the you could work something out.]

Cheers,

Not really but it's better to make them happy because an unhappy customer will tell 10 at least people about the experience :p

If they are nice & reasonable about it......... I was more then happy to work something out.
