Probably...

Did you have to enter a serial number when you installed Nero? If not, then it will only work with your specific drive...

It's encoded into the serial number...

hmmm.... I also am using a copy of Nero 5.5 that came with my Liteon 40x. If I flash the firmware to the 48x CAV Liteon, will the Nero think it is a different drive and stop working?

The Nero that came with my TDK only works with TDK drives. I think it works with any TDK drives, but i'm not really sure. Bump for ya.

Yeah, the Nero 5.5 that came with my Cendyne (24x) did not like the new Cendyne (32x) that I got. I have both burners in the same machine and it would only access the 24x. So I had to take the law into my own hand and find a "patch" to make it work with both burners...:)
Edit: The 24x was a Liteon, the 32x an Aopen.

The disc will work with any drive the same as the one he has. If he bought the same drive again, the first disc would work with it.

I tried flashing mine and Nero still worked. After a couple speed tests, I flashed it back to 40x and burned most of my stuff at 16x (since I have a lot of old 16x media).

I don't know if this has to do with the flashing, but my drive died after 5 days. It wouldn't burn in any program (even though it worked fine the day before). I tried all the tricks, like Force ASPI, DMA, but it just wouldn't burn at all, so I sent it back for an exchange.
