Didn't homo sapiens almost go extinct, what, 100,000 years ago? We only survived because our ancestors crossed over onto Eurasia, where our numbers started goin' back up.

Same thing coulda happened to the Nanderthals, but they weren't as lucky.

Conversely when I first visited their site again in the last few weeks after not reading it for a year or more, I was very disappointed. I could tell the very deep and powerful underlying propagandic disinformation.

I'd find it harder to believe that we didn't interbreed. If they cloned a neanderthal woman today there are modern guys who would mate with her in a heartbeat.

It's also pretty clear that we outsmarted and out-competed them. I suspect they became like subject tribes, where we'd be all like "Let us use your women and we won't kill you with spears while you throw rocks and swing your wooden clubs," and they were all like "Ok, makes sense." And then it became a tradition for bachelor humans to go to the neanderthal camp for one last fling before settling down.

Anyway, what was the OP about again?

You would have all these little Shakira's with rough facial features. :)

Not bad looking.

But do remember that a hard life, ages the skin quickly. Just look at for example in the outer limits in Afghanistan, the people who live in the mountain area.

More or less

once in our history, the world-wide population of human beings skidded so sharply we were down to roughly a thousand reproductive adults. One study says we hit as low as 40.

Forty? Come on, that can't be right. Well, the technical term is 40 "breeding pairs" (children not included).

Its strange to think about 70,000 years ago their may have only been a few dozen families around after a disaster and sickness.

yeah, the best way for fresh genes is for all people to mix along. Reducing the gene effects to as little as possible.
But a clean environment is a must too.

The show I saw said at that moment we had just enough people to avoid inbreeding effects if there were a few less families or they were separated more or even if a few couldn't conceive we would likely be extinct.
Amazing to think, they were us not some closely related prehumen relative. Everyone on the planet came from one of these 40-200 families.

Lets clear this up first. Are Neanderthals a subspecies of Homo Sapiens(aka homo sapian Neanderthal) or are they entirely a separate species? if the former, then it is very likely they interbreed with homo sapiens sapiens and mixed genetic. If so, they arent actually extinct.

Well, we know they interbred so this isn't an assumption. The human genome (meaning, everyone currently living on the planet) contains a certain percentage of Neanderthal DNA.

Svaante Pabo is the wizard whose lab sequenced the Neanderthal genome.

Dude gives some interesting talks, and I've actually worked with one of the bioinformaticians that collaborated on that project.

Interesting. Do they think Denisovians are a hybrid population between Neanderthal relatives and Homo Erectus? Have heard that theory mentioned a lot, but since I have not kept up on anthropology I have no idea if it has been discovered as right or wrong yet.

More news about Neanderthals mixing with Denisovans and homo sapiens.

What always seems to be forgotten is that in instinct we are tribal. We all are. That is why humans even today form groups. If you do think you are not like that, well rest assured. You just have not found your "tribe" yet.

But kidding aside, As can be seen in more primitive cultures and from history, people form tribes, go to war or make agreements and exchanging food and usually daughters. If we extend that thought to interbreeding with Neanderthals and Denosivans with early humans from Africa.
It makes sense.

I think we killed off the Neanderthals, in much the same way we have committed genocide against Native Americans, made slaves of Africans, colonized Africa, South America & Asia. Homo Sapiens Sapiens are killers. But just not us, carnivore mammals, reptiles, birds, bacteria, viruses, even plants are all killers too, that's one of the basic facts of evolution. As far as the false claim that neanderthals weren't very bright, what nonsense! They had a brain slightly larger than ours, survived multiple ice ages, hunted woolly rhinos, killed the cave bear, saber-tooth cats, lions larger than today's lions, burried their dead & took care of their old & disabled. As far as the dna evidence that all non-African people have over 2+% Neanderthal dna, so what. We know most African Americans have some White dna, a holdover from slavery, when the choice was submit or die. We killed them, probably because we had better weapons.

Hmm, no wonder we have so many genetic defects. That's a very small gene pool.

That is well known. Humans are the only species on the planet right now with very little genetic drift. Meaning the majority of DNA among all humans is like 95-96% the same. Most other species are around 75-85% the same.

I do not agree with you.
With respect to the slave trade in Africa, who do you think captured and sold the slaves to the Europeans initially ?
Tribes and kingdoms have fought and conquered each other for a long time all over the world. Enslaved prisoners as a result. Instead of killing them, they were sold.
Business spirit is all that was needed in Europe. That and presenting people as not human and equals.
Not condoning slave trade, it is wrong by definition in my eyes.
But you have your history wrong.

Evolution is about having a safe home and having a meal and producing offspring.
The ways to reach those goals differ from species to species.

Besides, are you telling me that people who are not Caucasian are not homo sapiens ?
...

The Neanderthals were apparently not as bright as homo sapiens. They went many many many millennia without improving their very primitive tools. Not so homo sapiens, whose greater intelligence likely had a lot to do with their prevailing.

As far as today, in my opinion humans all over the planet (i.e. all ethnicities) enjoy really the same advanced intelligence. I say this with no reservation. Of course, it is by far the case that most of these people don't maximize their mental potential! :) But the potential is there, regardless of your race.

They say that necessity is the mother of invention. They also say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
Perhaps the lack of progression wasn't due to intelligence, but other factors?

Necessity is certainly the mother of invention, however I am the father!

They also say "a stitch in time saves nine."

Yes, and don't forget to leave your donation in the pot at the door. Uh, and have a nice day. And come back soon. Meantime, don't do anything I wouldn't do. And if you do, donate double next time and you'll be forgiven.

The Neanderthals? We definitely killed some of them. All, no, not nearly all. Saber toothed tigers killed some, a few were offed by snakes. A bunch fell off cliffs. Some froze to death, others starved. You get the idea. But none died in road rage incidents.

Neanderthals were likely killed off by infectious plagues to which we had partial immunity. Most signs point to living freely with the Neanderthals in Europe, with frequent interbreeding the result.
