The Nature of Rebates

Recently, I?ve been exploring the world of rebates. I?ve discovered stackable offers to purchase some products for insane low prices; prices low enough where it would be very profitable to purchase items with the intent of sale.

I was wondering, though, how reliable rebates tend to be. I've never used rebates. Waiting 8 to 12 weeks is a long time, and in the past I?ve heard of people who wait for rebates but they never come. So, what are your experiences with rebates? Do you always get what you expect when you expect it? Horror stories? Tips for the Rebate Newbies?

Thanks!

Yes, I am inexperienced, ignorant and unskilled in this area. I do not wish to be a n00b; thus, the post!

If you find hot deals here online, then look at other people's experiences with getting rebates from that vendor. And after that, keep copies of everything you send in for rebates. And lately, I've started using Delivery Confirmation/Tracking for high value rebates.

Use Rebate Rebate << freeware

It basically tracks the rebates for you, lets you know when their late and what you have outstanding.

The nature of rebates is:

Some come on time.
Some are late.
Some come with no hassles.
Some require follow-up.
Some require constant unremitting babysitting over a lengthy period in order to collect.
Some rebate companies are good.
Some are not.
Some of the good ones go downhill and some of the bad ones improve.
Some manufacturers always come through in the time period stated.
Some manufacturers never come through unless hounded.

If you're willing to do the follow-up when necessary, they can provide many items for minimal cost. Generally speaking, they aren't much good for volume reselling as most rebates are limited to one per person, so you only get to purchase one of that item for resale.
