Yeah so I get this letter today from them asking for biographical info and of course money because I am so special and have been nominated blah blah... I got the Golden Key BS a while back and didn't even bother, but is this legit or BS?

BS. I know a guy that's taken every AP exam offered here and scored a 5 on all of them, has a free ride to MIT, 1600 SAT's, tied for #1 in the class, 4.0 GPA, 5.9QPA (out of theoretical 6.0, taken down only by phys ed, which isn't offered at a high level but is required, so 5.9 is actually the max) and nobody has offered him to be on any "National Deans List"

Just a little clue for future reference: if you have to pay to recieve any "honor," it's sh!t.

You don't have to pay. You can just submit your biological info. They make their money off of proud parents paying though. Supposedly you can check it out in the libraries. It is not a scam but it is also not the highest honor. It is more of a "commercial" honor.

The libraries get free copies, so those that bother to carry it do so only because it's free, not because the list means anything. You can probably find some credulous librarians happily accepting copies of star registries for their collections as well.

When I see people listing themselves in honor directories or Who's Who-type directories on a resume or c.v. I don't think too highly of them. Same with people who put Mensa member on their list of affiliations rofl. It looks strained: focus on more legit things to put in your honors list. Even if it is blank I think it looks better than one of those "buy-an-honor" things.

Thats what all the grad schools use to see who to accept!

Also, if you dont get in it, your grandma will cry.
