The Name My Server thread

That server needs a name. WCCC-NHC4ZNOPI3 just doesn't do it justice.

It's a Duron 1300 sitting on top of an NF7 with 128mb of PC2700.

Those aren't the only roles it will fulfill, but that's the starting lineup (for now).

here are the names of my computers, perhaps you can borrow one:
1) CEREBELLUM
2) SYNAPSE
3) INSPIRON
4) ULTRA
5) POWEREDGE
6) DOWNLOAD
7) NEURON
8) TEHWINAR
9) OLDDELL
10) LAPTOP
 
When I worked for an ISP, we named them after Simpsons characters:

drnick
sideshowbob
bart
lisa
groening

and so forth. If you have a lot of computers, a lot of people name them after a theme. I know a place I work at now (acmeshells.com) we've named the boxes things like republic, empire, monarch, dictator, etc (rip dominion). some of the computers i have at home just have weird random names like logic, bonjour, rendezvous, blackbox, vox, etc. just be creative!

how aboot any of these?

NotNix, Insecure, Risk, Effort......

Cause it's not *nix

Since most of the virii, worms, trojans, etc out there target Windows, it is more insecure in the real world, even if the OS is "technically" as secure as your favorite flavor of *nix.

With insecurity comes Risk, also, it is a cool board game

Windows takes a lot more effort to KEEP running. I'll agree that the initial setup of a Unix/Linux box can be time consuming, but it usually requires less maintenance once you have everything how you like it.



Or perhaps As others have said, choose a character name from one of your favorite TV shows .... I think Beavis would be a cool name for the server, or maybe Cartman, or how about Timmahhh?
