Can you actually buy these, or was a lot of fan fare created for nothing because Intel f*ed up the controller and had to recall all of them?

SSD drive costs aren't coming down and it's pissing me off. My HDD is slow and loud and I don't like that. I want an 80GB system partition now, but I can't afford it.

This mythical beast is found at newegg, but they charge a hefty premium for the rare breed.

Your best bet is probably searching on google and buying from a smaller vendor that has it for <$250.

I don't think the rareness of this mythical beast is due to the slight bug at release, but just due to demand that is far greater than the supply.

INTEL SSDSA2MH080G2C1 X25M at ZipZoomFly for $249.99 - $30 rebate - 3% Bing Cashback = $212.49 or $2.66/GB shipped

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...0790&prodlist=celebros

Deals for the OCZ Vertex 60GB ($148... $2.47/GB) and 120GB ($265... $2.21/GB) two weeks ago (after rebate and cashback) have since evaporated. However, the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays should bring prices substantially lower.

It's fairly easy to find the 80Gb online at a reasonable price. The 160Gb, however, seems to be unobtainable for under $500. Which sucks for me, because 80Gb just isn't enough space for my laptop :frown:

If you trust eBay, keep checking Buy.com's eBay store. They had the X25-M G2 160GB for $446 - 8% Bing Cashback - 2% Ebates/Mr. Rebates Cashback = $402 or X25-M G2 80 GB for $205 after cashback. Basically approaching $2.50 a GB.

And who knows, Microsoft might just raise their eBay Bing cashback again to 15% for the holidays. By then, Intel should be able to satiate demand enough to further stabilize pricing.

I grabbed my 160 GB X-25M G2 for $470ish a month ago or so from Amazon.com (ANTOnline was the seller). I still don't regret paying the price premium.

actually it is the firmware that had a bug in it.. the bug was that if you put a bios password and then remove it, your data is lost.
This was fixed in under 2 weeks.

I have one, they are found everywhere, the problem is finding them at a reasonable price as almost everyone marks them up quite a lot due to extreme demand (because they are they good)
