The movie Pay it Forward. I HATED the ending! *SPOILER*

What was the meaning of having Trevor die? How dumb! I liked the whole movie and that ruined it. Is there a hidden meaning to his death that I just didn't get? Was it just to try being a tearjerker? Lame!

The poll question, do you think the notion of pay it forward could ever work for real?

I really didn't like it either but the movie would have been (even more) totally "fantasy" if it had a happy ending. ;)

EDIT: By his death, he became a "martyr". It added more emphasis to his idea of "pay it forward".

some kid starts the notion of getting a good deed done for you, and "paying it forward" by donig a good deed for others, and having it spread

he gets stabbed in a schoolyard fight when defending some nerd against a bully.

If it had been "happy", his teacher would have been Mr. Miyagi and he'd have kicked their assets. :D
(And perhaps no one would have heard or kept on paying it forward.)

i was shocked when he died at the end. maybe it just showed that no matter how much good you do for people, there are still bad people in the world and we can never live in the utopia trevor thought up in his head.

I said the movie is "pay it forward" not "bend it over"

I never saw the movie or read the book, but I've always had an understanding of the principles/idea behind it. It's part of my personal belief system.

As for being a martyr... I've spent enough of my life doing that, thank you! :p
I've recently joined Martyr's Anonymous. ;)

I liked the ending b/ c it made it so much more real.
That's real life---example firefighters dying in the wtc, innocent people getting killed by corrupt ones etc...
it was not the typical hollywood everybody lives happily ever after ending....

I seem to remember liking the movie. I saw it last summer when I worked at Hollywood Video. I think I knew that he died at the end - some random customer in the store was talking about it and how sad it was that he died at the end. I was mad. But then I felt that I almost had to watch the movie. So I did.

Huh. I really should read the book... I had heard about the concept but my list of 'To Read" books is several hundred miles long.

I thought this was an interesting interview...
