It's going to be $199 after 2year (ouch) contract and $100 mir. Nice price. Love the look and form factor. Not sure about the lack of WiFi and touchscreen (never thought I'd say that after coming from a BlackBerry). We recently got Verizon service at our office as an option, but I still have 8mos left on my current TMo contract. :|

I'll wait for reviews before I consider dumping my MDA. I still don't trust Motorola. :/

specs from C/Net:

At long last, Motorola and Verizon announced today the official availability and pricing of the Motorola Q. The Windows Mobile 5 smart phone will be sold on Verizon Wireless's Web site starting May 31 and in stores on June 5 for $199.99 with a two-year contract and $100 instant rebate. We'll be working hard to have a full review up in the next couple of days, but in the meantime, here are a few highlights:

Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone Edition
EV-DO support
Bluetooth 1.2
Push e-mail via GoodLink; access to POP3 e-mail accounts, including Yahoo and Hotmail
"World's thinnest" QWERTY device
Dual, stereo-quality speakers

is it supposed to be rolled out to other providers soon or is it going to be a verizon exclusive for now?

It's Verizon exclusive for now, but Sprint will be getting it soon.

No built in 802.11 connection?? :frown:

it has built-in EVDO (same network as vcast)...which is better than 802.11 IMO for a cell phone.

Not for connecting to a Cisco AP.

so...you will sit at home and connect your phone to the internet? get a laptop 😛

No... I will use it to replace my current PDA. So I can access the domain controller anywhere on-site and don't have to go back to my desk for every little change and fix. 😉

I really don't like these PDA, smartphone devices cause of the size. After looking at this phone I'm VERY interested in it. Its just amazing at what this phone can do for its size... My only drawback though is the 2 hour talk time... thats gonna be a HUGE problem.

Need to wait for the lock on Verizon to drop, so a real provider can have the phone (wish Cingular had a lock on this like they did the Razr). I'll be an owner when it's on a GSM network.

And the price for what it is can't be beat.

I'm holding out for the GSM/HSDPA version 🙂
Yeah, and make sure it has Windows Mobile 5.0 Second Edition or whatever the latest release is (wow, 1 year late to the party and Motorola didn't even upgrade the OS? Thanks.)

Wait...it doesn't have AKU2.0 even? Hell, MS has already released 2.2 to OEMs. That sucks. No push mail on a device that looks like a Blackberry?

Oh yeah Q unboxing porn.

I have the Blackberry 8700 through Cingular on my company network. I went with Cingular because they had the latest and greatest device. I wonder if I can switch?

What isn't? AKU2 is most certainly push. You're may be misinterpreting the heartbeat signal. Now, WM5 without AKU2 offers either user-selectable polling intervals or SMS notified "sorta push," which I agree are not push solutions.

I don't know what AKU2 is. How does it work, who provides it and how much does it cost?

Dammit, I had a big long reply typed out and accidentally deleted it. Basically, it's a free ROM update for WM5 provided by MS to OEMs and service providers. It has some bug fixes, Direct Push support from Exchange 2003 SP2 servers, and stereo BT audio support (if the provider/oem doesn't remove it as many have).

If you want a more technical description of Direct Push I can dig up a dozens-page long thread at Howard Forums with insight from an MS tester with lots of insight.

Oh yeah, I had originally come in here to post PCMag's review. They seemed to really like it. Interestingly, it has A2DP (stereo BT) and AVRCP (BT remote media controls), but not Direct Push. 😕

Can't wait to read a review from a real reviewer though. In typical PCMag/CNet fashion, the reviewer was technically illiterate and the review was pretty much fluff.

AFAIK, Motorola at the last minute implemented a 3rd-party push mail solution from GoodMail (I think that's the name?) I'm not sure if this was included in the units that reviewers received.

Sounds like a hack up. So, it still doesn't have true push, right?
