The motor turns on every 1/2 hour or so

It turns on about twice an hour and cools down. Then goes off 10 minutes later. I was wondering if the temperature gage is set too high even though it looks like it's set low. It's pretty loud so i'm thinking about leaving it off. What could go wrong? Just the stuff inside gets a little closer to room temperature. It'll still be a little cold.
