My build is really getting there in terms of age................ Going on 6yrs. I always used Intel MB's for stability in the past and since they don't make them any more, what brand OTHER THAN MSI to go to if I were to build now................ Well, early next year is the plan.

I'm running an Intel i7 3770, 8gb ram Mushkin Black ram, Evga 670ftw, WD 500gb Velociraptor.

Been building for well over 15 years and used to upgrade every 1-2 years, but lost the swing for a bit. The MB is getting to me guys!!!!!

What MB company to go with and which one for $150. or less? I don't plan on overclocking at all. I want basic but a stable MB. I want zero problems with this build. I'm 100% so far except for the dead WD Black drive I got that was DOA back in 2008.

1 more---- How long do MB batteries last?

All manufacturers make some great boards, and also some crummy ones. When you get closer to buying, read some reviews (and user fedback) on which ones are a good choice.

CMOS batteries generally last for a long time, so the majority probably fall in the 5-8 year range.

ASRock is killing it lately with their boards... but nothing is crash-proof. What platform are you considering moving too?

ASRock and Asus seem to be the top choices at the moment, although some people are reporting bad experiences with RMAing Asus products.

Asrock or Asus are good. Any specific features you need, such as number of m.2 or sata ports?

What do you do with this PC ? As in will you need a lot of cores ? or just a few fast ones or ?

May not be the right place but I’ll ask.
What’s the deal with the new AMD B450 boards and that combined storage thing? Allows ssd and mechanical drives to be combined into one drive with fast or slow storage depending on need.

I see thread jumping is big on Anandtech too. He should know better seeing he's been here awhile.
To answer....... Gaming mostly. I was thinking about the Intel i5 8600 and an Nvidia 1060/6gb. Only gaming at 1080p and on a 24in Dell at the moment. Wanting to jump to a halfway decent IPS 27in when I build in Feb.

Any Asian based company will be difficult for RMA for a variety of reasons. I think Asus has the best boards out there in terms of features at the price level. I've never had issues with any of their products I've used. I see a lot of love for Asrock but at the time I was buying a new board for my current build there were some questions about memory compatibility and I couldn't confirm if the latest BIOS at the time fixed it or not. So I went with what I knew worked 100% out of the box. One of the areas ASUS always gets it right is their BIOS.

On a side note I miss Abit a lot. They had the absolute best boards in their day. Also DFI. DFI didn't have the most stable out of the box boards(lets say you just want to build it and be done) but their BIOS allowed you to change almost everything and tweak for seemingly forever to get every last drop of performance and stability. They also had the best forum for help, their engineers would frequent them and provide detailed memory timings for nearly any brand and model of memory you use for their boards and provided awesome overclocking support.

Sorry to go off on a tangent there.

TLDR: Asus or Asrock with Asus taking the prime spot for me due to past experience and their better BIOS compatibility.

Not sure. I do want to go with a ssd on this build.
I don't need much storage, hence I may just go 1tb for this for the main and only drive. Is this a wise move?

I was thinking of either the Samsung 960EVO or the Intel 545s

I have two 960evo 1TB drives running on my system. Very good drives. My startup drive is a 512GB 970Pro m.2 NVMe drive though because I figured if I'm willing to spend the money why not just get the fastest drive for my OS.
